Reality TV star turned Broadway performer makes her departure official as her career moves far beyond MomTok drama.

Whitney Leavitt has officially left The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. The reality star announced her exit in a very public way—right in the middle of her final performance as Roxie Hart in the Chicago musical on Broadway.

Leavitt made the announcement on May 3, 2026, during her last show. Staying in character, she pulled out a newspaper and read a headline out loud: “Whitney Leavitt Announces She’s Leaving The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” She then turned to the crowd with open arms, and the audience responded with cheers.

Her team later confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline. Leavitt has been a full-time cast member since the Hulu series first aired in September 2024.

Whitney Leavitt’s Career Has Grown Too Big for Reality TV

Leavitt’s decision didn’t come out of nowhere. Over the past year, her career has taken off in ways that go far beyond the MomTok drama.

She competed on Dancing with the Stars Season 34 and made it to the semi-finals with partner Mark Ballas. That success led directly to Broadway. Leavitt made her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago on February 2, 2026. Her run was so popular that the show extended her stay. The production reportedly pulled in some of its highest ticket sales in the musical’s 29-year history.

From there, she landed a lead role in a holiday romantic comedy called All for Love. Leavitt is also serving as an executive producer on the film, which is set to release later this year.

In a March 2026 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Leavitt explained what was going through her mind.

“I’m figuring it out in real time. We’re figuring it out together, but it feels like that’s the trajectory of where it’s going. I wouldn’t be where I am without it, but it feels like it’s time to challenge myself in other ways and fulfill these dreams and passions that I’ve been trying to get even before the show.”

Viewers Saw This Coming for a While

For fans who have watched the show since the beginning, Leavitt leaving isn’t a shock. She has already stepped away from the core MomTok group before.

Between Season 1 and Season 2, Leavitt took a break from the group. She admitted later that she returned for Season 3 mostly because she wanted to use the show as a launching pad to get onto Dancing with the Stars. Once she got that opportunity, built a national fanbase, and landed on Broadway, sticking around for petty Utah drama didn’t make as much sense for her career.

Season 3 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives premiered in November 2025. By that time, Leavitt had already shifted her focus toward acting and dancing rather than fixing friendships on camera.

The Show Is Going Through Major Changes

Leavitt’s exit comes at a messy time for the Hulu series. Production on Season 5 was paused back in March 2026. The停工 happened because of an internal investigation involving cast member Taylor Frankie Paul and her ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen. The investigation involved claims of domestic issues, and at one point police in Utah looked into the situation.

Filming has since restarted. But a lot has changed. Demi Engemann also left the show mid-way through Season 4 after dealing with her own legal issues and being pushed out of MomTok.

Right now, the remaining cast members standing are Jessi Draper, Miranda Hope, Layla Taylor, and Mayci Neeley. They appeared together at Hulu’s Get Real event in April 2026 to promote what’s left of the series.

Hulu is also testing a spin-off. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County was officially announced on April 22, 2026. The new cast includes YouTuber Aspyn Ovard, Avery Woods, and McCall DaPron (who is Mayci Neeley’s sister). That show is scheduled to debut later in 2026.

Leavitt is not part of that spin-off, nor is she coming back to Utah for more filming.

What This Means for Season 5

Cameras were already rolling on Season 5 before the production pause. The cast even went to Chicago in February 2026 to watch Leavitt perform on Broadway. Those moments will likely show up in the new season.

It is still not clear if Leavitt will appear at all in the upcoming episodes. She might show up as a guest for an exit scene, but she will not return as a full-time cast member. Since she announced her departure publicly and on her own terms, it seems like she is closing this chapter for good.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Seasons 1 through 4 are currently streaming on Hulu in the US. For viewers in the UK, the show is available on Disney+. Audiences in Canada and Australia can also watch on Disney+, while viewers in India can find the series on Disney+ Hotstar.
