The ABC crime drama Will Trent just delivered one of its most heartbreaking episodes to date. Season 4 Episode 15, titled “The Blank Expanse of Nothing,” aired on April 14, 2026, and ended with a devastating loss that will change the show forever. Will Trent (Ramón Rodríguez) found himself trapped in a deadly game with the manipulative Adelaide Trevens (Mallory Jansen). While trying to save his kidnapped uncle, Will walked right into a trap that cost someone very close to him their life.
Will Trent Season 4 Episode 15 picked up right after Adelaide’s surprising phone call. She promised to give Will answers about his Uncle Antonio. But she had her own dark plans. The episode also followed Faith Mitchell (Iantha Richardson) as she thought about leaving the GBI. A strange case about a teenager claiming alien abduction pulled her back in, leading her and Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin) into a disturbing human trafficking investigation.
Amanda Wagner Meets Her End in a Brutal Attack
The biggest shock came in the final minutes of Will Trent Season 4 Episode 15. Deputy Director Amanda Wagner (Sonja Sohn) died after being stabbed multiple times. She was working with the FBI behind Will’s back to track down the mysterious “Commander” connected to Adelaide and the cult that worships serial killer James Ulster.
Will planned to meet Adelaide at a bar. He came prepared with questions only his uncle could answer. He also hid a tracker inside a matchbox, the same kind he and Antonio kept as a souvenir from Puerto Rico. But Adelaide was always two steps ahead. She had workers at the restaurant cause a distraction and slipped away.
Then came the chilling phone call. Adelaide told Will:
“What a shame, Will. While we made these dinner plans, I really was going to give you everything you wanted: your uncle, your life, me, all of it, but you had to go ruin it by having your boss go looking for me.”
Will had no idea Amanda was chasing Adelaide. Adelaide said she left him “a little present” around the corner. Will found Amanda Wagner lying on the ground near some stairs. She had been stabbed multiple times in the chest and was bleeding badly. The episode ended on this emotional cliffhanger, leaving viewers in shock.
The showrunners Liz Heldens, Daniel T. Thomsen, and Karine Rosenthal confirmed to Variety that Amanda Wagner is truly gone. Rosenthal explained why the writers chose to kill off such an important character.
“Amanda has been the character who has protected Will for as long as she has known him. So this gives us the opportunity for a completely new dynamic in the GBI, because her replacement will not have that same relationship with Will,” Rosenthal said. “Her death had the most impact on the most amount of characters. It really sets everybody reeling from this enormous loss.”
Faith and Ormewood Uncover a Dark Trafficking Ring
While Will dealt with Adelaide, Faith Mitchell and Michael Ormewood worked a very strange case. A teenager named Grace was found locked inside a car. She kept saying that aliens had taken her. Faith and Ormewood thought the girl might be hallucinating or on dr*gs at first.
Their investigation took them to Shelly’s Alien Emporium, a quirky shop run by a woman named Shelly (Constance Shulman). The trail led them to a cheap motel. That is where things got dark. The team realized that “aliens” was code word for assailants. The motel was being used as a front for trafficking young women.
Angie Polaski (Erika Christensen) shared something very personal during this case. She told Faith that some girls do heal after going through such trauma. This was a big moment that showed the deep bond between the two women. Faith showed incredible strength throughout the investigation. She kept Grace calm and assured her that her parents only cared about her safety.
The case turned dangerous when one of the traffickers attacked Faith. But she fought back. With Ormewood and Shelly’s help using an audio recording to track the truck, they arrested two of the criminals. Grace returned safely to her parents. But Faith felt defeated knowing they had not destroyed the entire trafficking ring.

The next episode, titled “Our Last Dance,” will show the team hunting for Adelaide while still searching for Antonio. The official description says Adelaide will “systematically eliminate her own acolytes” as Will deals with grief so strong it could break the whole team.
Sonja Sohn could still appear in future episodes as a vision in Will’s mind. The show has used this method before when characters died. Heldens said, “That’s always a little of a comfort that we have a mechanism by which we could bring people back if Will needs to work something out.”
The tragedy has changed everything for Will Trent. His mother figure and protector is gone. The search for his uncle continues. And Adelaide is still out there, always staying one step ahead. This is a major turning point for the ABC drama as it moves toward the end of Season 4 and beyond.
