YouTube reviewer Suraj Kumar, who has over 1 million subscribers, received a legal notice from the makers of the film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups following his negative review of the movie. The notice came just one day after the film’s theatrical release on August 26, 2026.
The legal notice was issued by Aiplex Software Private Limited, a Bengaluru-based digital enforcement company, acting on behalf of the production house KVN Monster Mind Creations LLP. Suraj Kumar shared a screenshot of the email on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “Thank You Team #Toxic For the Legal Notice on My Review”.
At the time of writing, the review video that triggered the legal action remains available for viewing on his channel.
Bengaluru Court Order Restricts False Content About Toxic
The legal notice cites an ex parte temporary injunction passed by the Additional City Civil and Sessions Court in Bengaluru on August 22, 2026. The court order, registered as O.S. No. 6026 of 2026, restrains the publication or circulation of any false, malicious, defamatory, or derogatory content about the film.
The production house, KVN Productions LLP, filed an interim application under Order 39, Rules 1 and 2 of the Code of Civil Procedure, seeking protection against both identified and unidentified individuals who might spread harmful content. The court found that a prima facie case existed in favor of the makers and that the balance of convenience favored granting the injunction.
The court order specifically prohibits anyone from communicating, publishing, circulating, sharing, posting, streaming, or providing access to anything false, malicious, defamatory, or derogatory concerning the film, whether before or after its release.
Temporary Injunction Valid Until September 28
The interim injunction will remain in effect only until the next hearing on September 28, 2026. The court has made it clear that this order cannot be used for any other purpose except what it was granted for. If the producers fail to comply with the conditions imposed, the temporary injunction will be vacated without further notice.
The court also referenced the Karnataka High Court’s precedent in Meera Ajith v. John Doe @ Ashok Kumar, which allows injunctions against unnamed parties when a genuine threat and a prima facie case are established.
What the Court Order Means for Reviews and Criticism
The court order does not prevent audiences or critics from expressing genuine opinions about Toxic. Viewers and critics remain free to review, discuss, and criticize the film based on their experience. The restriction applies specifically to content that is deceptive, harmful, or defamatory, particularly material aimed at building a false narrative around the release.
This is different from some earlier film-related injunction orders in Karnataka, where producers had sought restrictions covering a much wider range of online material, including reviews, videos, reactions, trolling, and even what was described as “challenging feedback”. The present order is specifically focused on preventing false, malicious, defamatory, or derogatory material concerning Toxic.
Aiplex Software and Previous Controversies
This is not the first time a film’s team has used Aiplex Software for such services. In the past, Telugu YouTuber Sushant, who runs the channel Barbell Pitch Meetings, accused the company of misusing copyright strikes and legal notices to temporarily suppress critical reviews during crucial opening weekends.

Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is directed by Geetu Mohandas and produced by Venkat K Narayana and Yash through KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations LLP respectively. The film stars Yash in dual roles, alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, and Rukmini Vasanth.
The action drama is set in Goa against the backdrop of the 1940s to the 1970s. The multilingual film features a large ensemble cast and was released worldwide on August 26, 2026.
Toxic Box Office Performance
Despite mixed reviews on social media, Toxic opened strongly at the box office. According to Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 101 crore net and Rs 120 crore gross across India on its opening day. The Hindi version contributed Rs 55 crore, followed by the Kannada version, which earned less than Rs 25 crore despite high occupancy. The Telugu version earned Rs 11 crore on the opening day.
The film recorded the second-best opening for an Indian film in the domestic market in 2026, behind Dhurandhar 2’s historic Rs 103 crore start.
Audience Ratings Disabled on BookMyShow
Following the same court directive, audience ratings and reviews for the film have been completely disabled on BookMyShow. This move came as part of the broader legal protection sought by the makers to prevent the spread of false or defamatory content about the film.
Advance Booking Numbers
Before its release, Toxic had already created a storm in advance box office collections. According to industry trackers, the film sold over 9 lakh tickets across nearly 17,780 shows, generating a gross of approximately Rs 32.21 crore through ticket sales, with the figure rising to Rs 41.36 crore when blocked seats were included.

Instead of reacting once harmful content becomes popular, the Toxic team decided to pursue legal protection before the film’s release.
With massive global interest following Yash’s success in the KGF franchise, the interim order ensures that Toxic enters its theatrical run shielded from organized fake news campaigns while allowing genuine cinematic discourse.
