The film marks the return of Kannada superstar Yash to the big screen after his massive success in KGF: Chapter 2 in 2022. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the movie is a period gangster action drama set in Goa during Portuguese rule.
Despite high expectations from fans, the film opened to lukewarm reviews. It features a large ensemble cast including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, and Rukmini Vasanth in key roles.

Other fans mocked the outrage and urged Rukmini to continue taking on unconventional roles. The backlash against Toxic is not limited to Rukmini Vasanth’s scene. The film has faced criticism since the release of its teaser over its violence, sensuality, and portrayal of women. One scene in the teaser showed Yash’s character in an intimate moment with a woman inside a car while violence played out outside, which drew criticism for combining sexual imagery with graphic violence.
The controversy grew after the release of the “Ladies & Ladies” teaser in July, which some felt presented the female characters mainly through their looks and sexuality rather than their individual personalities. The backlash became so serious that the AAP Women’s Wing filed a complaint against the film with the Karnataka State Commission for Women over what it described as obscene and explicit visuals.
