The final season of The Boys is doing more than just ending the main story. Season 5, which started streaming on Prime Video from April 8, 2026, is quietly building the foundation for the next chapter of this universe. The show is planting clues and introducing backstory elements that directly connect to Vought Rising, the upcoming 1950s prequel series.

The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke and his team are using the final episodes to explain the origins of Compound V and the first generation of supes. Episode 3, titled “Every One of You Sons of Bitches,” contains major revelations that serve as a launch pad for the new show. These details give fans a clearer picture of what to expect when Vought Rising arrives.

Episode 3 Reveals the Origins of V1 and the First Five Supes

The third episode of The Boys Season 5 drops important information about V1, the original version of Compound V. Dr. Sameer Shah (Omid Abtahi) and Sister Sage (Susan Heyward) explain that V1 is ten times more powerful than the modern Compound V. It is also very unstable, which is why many test subjects died during early trials.

Only five people survived the V1 injections. These five individuals never age because of how strong the formula was. The survivors are Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), Stormfront (who used the name Clara Vought at the time, played by Aya Cash), Bombsight (Mason Dye), Torpedo (Will Hochman), and Private Angel (Elizabeth Posey). These five characters are exactly the main cast of Vought Rising.

The episode confirms that Clara Vought was the very first person to receive V1. She was the wife of Frederick Vought, the Nazi scientist who founded the Vought corporation. This detail connects directly to the upcoming prequel, which will show her early days as a supe before she became known as Stormfront.

Fort Harmony and the Dark History of Vought’s Experiments

The Boys Season 5 also introduces a new location called Fort Harmony. This is an old army hospital that the government shut down and classified as top secret after World War II. MM (Laz Alonso) believes this is where Frederick Vought tested V1 on human subjects.

The mention of Fort Harmony gives viewers a clear idea of the kind of dark institutional history that Vought Rising will explore. The prequel is set in 1950s New York City, at the time when Vought was building its power. The abandoned hospital and the secret experiments fit perfectly with the show’s tone.

Eric Kripke described Vought Rising as “L.A. Confidential with superheroes. Maybe grimier. Probably, definitely grimier.” He added that it is a murder mystery with noir elements. The story moves through heroin dens, gay bars, and the criminal underbelly of postwar America. Kripke called it “Pulp Fiction-y” with femme fatales and detectives.

Soldier Boy Takes Center Stage in His Own Time Period

Jensen Ackles returns as Soldier Boy in The Boys Season 5, but the prequel will show a very different side of the character. In the main show, Soldier Boy is a man out of time, confused by the modern world. Vought Rising will place him in the 1950s, where he belongs.

“Now we’re getting to see him be relevant, getting to see him in his actual environment where he feels like this is where he belongs. He’s the top dog.” – Jensen Ackles

Ackles shared that he agreed to do the prequel immediately when it was pitched to him. He also confirmed that the creative team plans for Vought Rising to be a multi-season show. The series will peel back the layers of what happened to Soldier Boy during that time and explain why he became the person viewers saw in The Boys.

Other Characters from Gen V Could Appear in Vought Rising

Eric Kripke has talked about bringing Ethan Slater back as Thomas Godolkin for Vought Rising. Godolkin is the founder of Godolkin University, which appears in Gen V. He has mind control powers. Kripke told Entertainment Weekly that it would be “insane not to” include the character in the prequel, given how well he fits the timeline.

Season 1 of Vought Rising has already finished filming as of March 2026. A premiere date has not been set yet. The show will be led by showrunner Paul Grellong. Other cast members include Kiki Layne, Jorden Myrie, Nicolò Pasetti, Ricky Staffieri, and Brian J. Smith.

What This Means for The Boys Universe

The Boys Season 5 is the final season of the main show. But the universe is far from over. Gen V season 2 is also in production. A separate project called The Boys: Mexico is in development with Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal attached as executive producers.

The connections between Season 5 and Vought Rising show that the creators are thinking long-term. By introducing the V1 survivors and explaining their immortality now, the main show gives viewers a reason to care about the prequel. Fans watching the final season are getting a backdoor introduction to the characters and conflicts that will drive the next series.

Mason Dye is also set to appear as Bombsight in The Boys Season 5 at some point, giving audiences an early look at another Vought Rising character before the prequel airs.

New episodes of The Boys Season 5 release every Tuesday on Prime Video.
