Episode 2 Recap: Rein and Lily Face a Dragon, Then Witness the Old Guild’s Cruelty

Episode 2, titled The Enhanced Clothes I Was Wearing Were Destroyed by a Devastating Blow, and a Traumatized Girl in Casual Clothes Hit Me with All Her Might, picks up with Rein Garland adjusting to life outside Beast’s Fang, the guild that expelled him after he had enhanced every piece of equipment its members owned. Rein has already reclaimed the massive pool of enhancement points he had poured into his former guildmates’ gear, leaving their equipment stripped of the boosts they had relied on for years.

Lily Flambert, the S-Rank adventurer who becomes Rein’s first party member, carries deep survivor’s guilt from a failed quest two years earlier. In Episode 2, Lily struggles with trauma that prevents her from fighting at full capacity. A mid-level dragon attacks the pair, and the encounter forces Lily to confront her fear. Rein’s reckless, almost unhinged willingness to charge at the dragon gives Lily the push she needs to act, and together they bring the creature down. After the battle, Rein asks Lily to form an official party with him, and she accepts.

The episode’s most unsettling sequence arrives when members of Rein’s former guild, Beast’s Fang, cross paths with Rein and Lily. The old guildmates have brought along two other adventurers whose gear Rein had previously enhanced. Because Rein dispelled the enchantments, those adventurers failed a quest, and the Beast’s Fang members do not understand why their equipment suddenly underperformed. Rather than accept responsibility, the guild members pin the failure on the two unlucky adventurers and execute them in cold blood in front of Rein and Lily. Rein and Lily do not intervene directly, a choice that leaves Lily visibly disturbed but unwilling to spark a conflict between her fledgling group and the much larger Beast’s Fang. The episode closes with the old guild fully aware that Rein stripped their enchantments, and they are furious about it.

Margaret Els Enters the Story With a Direct Tie to Lily’s Past

Episode 3 introduces Margaret Els, an adventurer belonging to the guild “Emperor’s Shield” and the younger sister of a woman who died on the same Gadreza quest that left Lily unable to fight. Two years before the main story, Lily, Margaret’s sister, and a group of companions set out for the Gadreza Light Dragon Ruins in search of the legendary sword Lefaid. The quest failed, and everyone except Lily perished. Lily returned with no memories of the incident beyond the terror she experienced, which led Margaret to believe that Lily abandoned her sister and the others to save herself.

Margaret confronts Lily directly, asking, “You ran away and left my sister to die, didn’t you?”. The accusation lands hard because Lily genuinely cannot remember what happened. To uncover the truth of that failed expedition, Lily decides to return to Gadreza with Rein. Margaret, despite her hatred for Lily, insists on joining them. The episode is titled “I Think I Can Forgive Them Now Because When I Went Along to Apologize to a Friend Who Had Been Shut In for Two Years, They Unexpectedly Gave Me a Rabbit Apple.”.
