Netflix shared the picture with the caption, โFrom Paris, with dread.โ This confirms the show is leaving Vermont behind for a much bigger, international story.
The shift in location means a major change in the show’s style. Wednesday Season 3 will move away from the supernatural high school mystery format. The new season will feel more like a dark international thriller, following a young woman with dangerous abilities as she faces threats on a global scale. The humor and dark atmosphere that fans enjoy will stay, but the setting and stakes will be much larger.
Why The Show Had To Leave High School
Nevermore Academy worked well for introducing viewers to Wednesday’s world. The mysterious school helped establish the tone, the magic, and the supporting characters. But shows set in high schools have a natural time limit. After two seasons, the writers would have struggled to find new stories without repeating themselves.
The season two finale pushed Wednesday out of Nevermore naturally. At the end of the season, Enid Sinclair, played by Emma Myers, transformed into a full alpha werewolf and ran into the wilderness. Wednesday and Uncle Fester ( Fred Armisen ) rode off together on a mission to find Enid. The goal is either to save her or cure her condition. This story cannot be told inside a school in Vermont. The Paris filming confirms the search is taking Wednesday to Europe first.

New Cast Members Join For Season 3
The cast for Wednesday Season 3 has grown significantly with several notable additions. Winona Ryder has joined in a guest star role that remains undisclosed. This reunites Ryder with Tim Burton, the director and executive producer of Wednesday, after their work together on Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands. Burton expressed happiness about the casting, stating that Ryder fits right into this world.
Eva Green has also joined the cast as Ophelia Frump, Wednesday’s previously unseen aunt. Green is known for her roles in Penny Dreadful and Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children. The character of Ophelia Frump was introduced in season two, seen only from behind. She had written โWednesday must dieโ on the wall of her cell at Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital.

Production Details And Release Information
Production on Wednesday Season 3 started in Ireland in late February 2026. The cast and crew were filming in Paris from April 18-20, 2026. Jenna Ortega and Fred Armisen were spotted filming along the Seine River, confirming that Uncle Fester is traveling with Wednesday.
The third season will not release in 2026. Netflix did not include Wednesday Season 3 in their 2026 TV lineup announcement. The show is one of Netflix’s more elaborate productions, and season two arrived almost three years after the first season due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes. Based on current production timelines, Wednesday Season 3 is expected to debut on Netflix sometime in 2027.
