The first season of Boston Blue is coming to an end on CBS with its 20th episode. This police show is a spin-off from the long-running series Blue Bloods. Fans who have been following Donnie Wahlberg as Detective Danny Reagan in his new Boston job will see the season wrap up next week. The good news for viewers is that the show already got renewed for a second season back in December 2025, so this is not the end of the road.

When and Where to Watch the Boston Blue Finale

The final episode of Boston Blue Season 1 is called “Patrol.” It will air on CBS on Friday, May 22, at 10 pm ET/9 pm CT. The episode will run for one hour until 11 pm ET. This finale is part of CBS’s Friday night lineup, which also includes the season endings of Fire Country Season 4 and its spin-off Sheriff Country.

For viewers who do not have cable, there are several ways to watch. Paramount+ is the main streaming home for the show. If you get the Paramount+ Premium (with Showtime) plan for $12.99 a month or $119.99 a year, you can watch the finale live as it airs on CBS. If you have the cheaper Paramount+ Essential Plan for $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year, you can watch the episode the next day.

What to Expect in the Season 1 Finale “Patrol”

The finale will push every character to their limit. According to the official synopsis, a dangerous investigation will force the team to make major personal and professional choices. At the same time, the election for District Attorney is getting closer. A sudden incident will change things for everyone and raise new questions.

Danny Reagan will face a different kind of challenge in this episode. Earlier in the season, it was made clear that as part of his transfer from the NYPD to the Boston PD, Danny has to spend some time working as a uniform cop on the streets. This is a job he has not done in many years. The finale will show Danny in this new role, which puts him back to his early days on the force. This change also puts him in more danger than usual.

Sherwin Shilati directed the season finale. The story was written by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, who are the co-creators of the show.

The Story So Far

Boston Blue follows Danny Reagan as he leaves the NYPD, where his family has worked for four generations, to join the Boston Police Department. He works with Detective Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green. Lena comes from a powerful law enforcement family in Boston. Her family includes her mother Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben), who is the district attorney, her sister Sarah Silver (Maggie Lawson), who is the police superintendent, and her younger brother Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner), who is a rookie cop.

The midseason finale of Boston Blue ended with a huge cliffhanger. Jonah Silver was found covered in blood next to a dead body. This forced Danny to make a hard choice. He had to officially take a Boston Police Department badge to lead the investigation because the Silver family could not investigate a crime involving their own family member.

Co-creator Brandon Sonnier explained why this moment was so important for Danny. He said Danny had been an NYPD cop his whole career and his whole family worked there. The show needed to create a family reason for him to make the switch, not just a work reason. The second half of the season showed Danny becoming a full Boston cop and walking away from the NYPD.

Recent episodes have also brought Sean Reagan (Mika Amonsen), Danny’s younger son, into the story more. Sean is starting his own career in Boston and will play a role in the ongoing investigations. Episode 19, titled “Chasing Monsters,” which aired on May 15, involved someone targeting police officers, setting up the high stakes for the finale.
