The world of Outlander is heading back to the Scottish Highlands sooner than expected. Starz officially announced that Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 will premiere on September 18, 2026. The network made the announcement on World Outlander Day (June 1), which marks the anniversary of Diana Gabaldon’s first novel release.

A new one-minute teaser arrived alongside the premiere date. The video picks up right where Season 1 ended. Julia Beauchamp (played by Hermione Corfield) stands alone at the Craigh na Dun standing stones holding her baby. Her husband Henry (played by Jeremy Irvine) is nowhere to be found. The teaser confirms that Julia went back through the stones while Henry got left behind in the 18th century.

Season 2 Story Picks Up Right After The Cliffhanger Ending

The first season ended with Henry and Julia finally reuniting at the standing stones. They hoped to return to their own time and their daughter Claire. Season 2 immediately follows that moment but with a painful twist. Julia is alone with their child. Henry must now deal with his mental health struggles as he fights to find his way back to her.

The official Season 2 description from Starz says:

“As Season Two unfolds, the two young couples will be tested and separated once again by forces beyond their control, as every clan chooses a side in the rebellion.”

Brian Fraser (played by Jamie Roy) and Ellen MacKenzie (played by Harriet Slater) also face serious problems. They escaped together at the end of Season 1, choosing each other over their families. But the 1715 Jacobite Rising has now begun. Fiery crosses lighting up the hills signal war is coming. Brian must fulfill his duty to fight. Ellen wants to make things right with her family after running away.

Matthew B. Roberts serves as showrunner, the same role he held for the flagship series. Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Toni Graphia, Luke Schelhaas, Michael Wilson, Jim Kohlberg, and Luke Parker Bowles are executive producers.

The Main Show’s Finale Left Fans Divided

The timing of this prequel announcement comes after Outlander Season 8 (the final season) received mixed reactions from viewers. The main series ended in March 2026. Many fans felt frustrated because the narrative choices were completely new. Diana Gabaldon has not finished writing the original book series yet. So the TV finale did not provide the closure many wanted.

One major point of disagreement was the Faith storyline twist. The final season suggested that a young girl named Fanny might be the daughter of Claire and Jamie’s child Faith, who they believed was stillborn years ago. Fans took to Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts. One fan wrote: “I am really hoping it’ll turn out not to be true, but still annoyed they put us and Jamie/Claire through that”. Another viewer said: “I hate that they took the liberty to do this while there was so much more that could be used”.

Despite the divided reaction to the main show’s ending, interest in Blood of My Blood remains strong. Season 1 earned an 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is an impressive start for a spinoff series.
