Prithviraj Sukumaran has picked his favorite Ranveer Singh performance. The Malayalam actor chose Rocky Randhawa from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani over Singh’s recent work in Dhurandhar.
During a conversation with Galatta Plus, Prithviraj opened up about which Ranveer Singh role left the biggest mark on him. He acknowledged that people have been praising Singh’s work in the Dhurandhar franchise. But for him, the 2023 Karan Johar film remains the standout.
“For me, one of his finest performances is Rocky in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. He was so good. I know people talk about Dhurandhar, he was amazing in Dhurandhar, but I have said this to Karan Johar also that Ranveer Singh was amazing in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani. That’s not an easy character to pull off at all.”
Why Prithviraj Picked Rocky Randhawa
Prithviraj Sukumaran explained that playing Rocky Randhawa required a careful balance. The character is lively, emotional, and layered. According to the Malayalam star, it was not an easy role to bring to life.
He believes many people do not realize how challenging the part actually was. The role demanded humour, emotion, and vulnerability all at once. Prithviraj also mentioned that he personally told director Karan Johar how much he appreciated the character. He praised Johar for creating a role that let Ranveer Singh explore many different emotional sides while still keeping audiences entertained.
What Makes Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani Special
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani released in 2023. The film follows Rocky Randhawa, an energetic Punjabi businessman, and Rani Chatterjee, an independent Bengali journalist played by Alia Bhatt.
The story explores cultural differences, family values, and gender stereotypes. The couple decides to exchange homes for three months before marriage. Rocky moves into Rani’s progressive Bengali household. He starts to question traditional ideas about masculinity and relationships. Rani faces resistance while living with Rocky’s conservative family, especially from his strict grandmother played by Jaya Bachchan.
The film also features Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi in important roles. Critics praised the movie for mixing romance, humour, and social commentary.
Acknowledging Dhurandhar
Prithviraj did not dismiss Singh’s work in Dhurandhar. He clearly said that Singh was “amazing” in the film.
The Dhurandhar franchise has earned Singh widespread acclaim. Many people have praised his performance in the spy thriller series. But for Prithviraj, the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani role stands higher.
Social media users have also reacted to Prithviraj’s choice. One post on X noted that Prithviraj loved Singh in Dhurandhar but preferred his work as Rocky from RRKPK.

Prithviraj has a busy schedule ahead. He will appear in director Nissam Basheer‘s thriller I, Nobody. He is also working on the action drama Khalifa. A horror project directed by Rahul Sadasivan is also in the works.
One of his biggest upcoming films is the pan-Indian epic Varanasi. SS Rajamouli directs the movie. It stars Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra alongside Prithviraj. The film is scheduled for release in April 2027.
