Diljit Dosanjh told fans to keep him away from political protests. Now the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) spokesperson says he is upset with the singer-actor.

The Punjabi superstar held an Instagram Live session on Wednesday where he answered questions from his followers. One fan asked him about the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Diljit replied in Punjabi and English, saying he did not know about any protest and wanted no part in it.

Saurav Das, the CJP spokesperson, later spoke to the press about Diljit’s comments. He admitted he was “a little upset” with the singer for staying away from their movement.

Spokesperson Wants Diljit to Speak on Youth Issues

Das said he believes Diljit should use his voice to encourage young people. He mentioned that the singer motivates fans through his music but should also speak about important issues facing the youth.

“Arre haan yaar. Matlab, that’s very sad. I think he should comment something, yuvaaon ka thoda josh badaye. Gaanon se josh badate hai lekin, bolke bhi kuch, is movement ke baare mei, iss yuvaaon ke issues ke baare mai, unko kuch bolna to chahiye.”

Das said it was sad that Diljit chose not to speak about the protest. He added that public figures with large youth followings should contribute to conversations about such movements.

The spokesperson clarified that he had “no message” for the actor-musician at first. But when pressed further, he expressed his disappointment clearly.

What Diljit Said During Instagram Live

During the live session, a fan wrote in Punjabi asking about the Jantar Mantar protest. Diljit responded by questioning what protest they were talking about.

“Bro, keep me away from these protests and all. I am an artist. I am not a politician.”

The singer said he had no idea about the protest. He also shared his thoughts on the situation in a balanced way.

“Jo protest kar rahe hain, unhe mubarakan, jinke layi protest hori, unhe vi mubarakan. (Whoever is protesting, congratulations to them. Whoever the protest is against, congratulations to them too). I have no idea what it is about.”

Diljit Dosanjh quoted a line from the Guru Granth Sahib during the live session. He said “Nanak dukhiya sab sansar, so sukhiya jis naam aadhaara,” which means everyone in the world faces sadness and only those who rely on God find happiness.

The singer mentioned he had been busy with his Aura Tour 2026 and was not aware of what was happening with the protest. This explained why he could not comment on the matter.

Background of the CJP Protest

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) started as a satirical digital group. They have been holding protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi since June 20.

The group is demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. They are protesting over the NEET paper leak controversy. Students and supporters from different states have joined the protest, asking for transparency and accountability in examinations.

Abhijeet Dipke founded the CJP. He started the group in response to comments made by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.

The protest has also received support from climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who joined through a hunger strike.

Diljit’s Past Political Stance

Diljit Dosanjh has spoken about social and political issues before. He supported the farmers’ protests in 2020 against the farm bills. He visited the Singhu border protest site in December 2020. He also donated Rs 1 crore for winter clothing for the protesters.

In May 2026, Diljit ruled out entering politics. A civil society group had publicly appealed to him to enter the political arena. He responded on X saying, “My job is to entertain people. I’m very happy in my field. Thank you so much.”

This recent comment marks a change from his earlier involvement in protests. Some social media users pointed out this difference.

Diljit’s Recent Work and Tour

On the work front, Diljit Dosanjh starred in Imtiaz Ali’s film Main Vaapas Aaunga. The movie also features Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari. It tells a love story set against the backdrop of the India-Pakistan partition.

The film received critical acclaim and gained momentum through positive word-of-mouth. It has emerged as one of the notable successes of 2026.

He is currently performing on his Aura Tour 2026 across the globe. The tour has kept him busy and away from following political developments.

The controversy continues to draw attention as the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar remains ongoing. The group has said their agitation will extend beyond education issues to include broader accountability concerns.
