Tom Cruise has become one of the first celebrities to share his review of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey after attending an early IMAX screening. The Hollywood star posted a photo of himself holding a ticket outside an IMAX 70mm theater and wrote a note thanking Nolan, producer Emma Thomas, and the film’s cast and crew.

Cruise’s review arrived just before the film’s worldwide release on July 17, 2026. His endorsement adds to the growing praise for Nolan’s epic fantasy action film, which has already received strong critical reception.

Cruise has long been one of Hollywood’s strongest advocates for watching movies on the big screen. The Odyssey Opens to Strong Reviews and Box Office Predictions
The Odyssey currently holds a 96% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 227 reviews. Critic William Bibbiani described the film as “not an epic sword-and-sandal action movie, it’s a mournful horror story on a scale Hollywood has never seen before,” adding that “‘Oppenheimer’ may be Nolan’s defining movie, but ‘The Odyssey’ is his best”.
Early box office projections suggest the film could earn between $85 million and $95 million in its North American opening weekend. That would surpass the $82.7 million opening of Nolan’s Oppenheimer in July 2023. If it crosses the $100 million mark, it would become only the fifth R-rated film to achieve that milestone in its domestic launch.
