Mumbai Premiere Marks a First for Christopher Nolan
The Odyssey premiere in Mumbai was a milestone event. It marked the first time Christopher Nolan launched a film in India. The premiere took place at PVR Icon IMAX in Mumbai on July 10 and 11, 2026.
Nolan was joined by Tom Holland, Matt Damon, and Emma Thomas at the event. The team received a standing ovation after the screening, with loud cheers from the audience.
Speaking at the premiere, Nolan shared why bringing the film to India was important to him.
“For many years, I have wanted to come here and launch one of our films and experience it with the Indian audiences, who are some of the most enthusiastic and knowledgeable cinematic audiences in the world.”
He also mentioned that the team had planned to bring Tenet to India earlier, but the pandemic prevented that from happening.
“We actually intended to come with Tenet originally, because we filmed here in Mumbai, and then because of the pandemic, we weren’t able to. And so finally we’re actually able to (do so with The Odyssey). It’s a thrill.”
Matt Damon and Tom Holland Thank Indian Fans
Matt Damon, who plays King Odysseus in the film, also spoke at the Mumbai premiere. He noted that the Mumbai audience was the first real crowd to see the finished movie.
“This is the first real audience we’ve been in front of that’s seen the film. It means the world to us that you liked it. We worked very, very hard on it.”
Tom Holland also addressed the audience directly, expressing his thanks for the warm welcome.
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you for always welcoming us with such open arms, happiness, excitement, grace and love. No one brings an energy to a movie theatre as you do here in India.”
The Cast Enjoyed a Chai Break Before the Premiere
Before the red carpet event, Christopher Nolan, Tom Holland, and Matt Damon made a quick stop at a local cafe in Mumbai. They enjoyed cutting chai and bun maska at the iconic Olympia Coffee House in Colaba.
Universal Pictures India shared pictures of the trio during the break, with the caption:
“Quick tea stop before The Odyssey Mumbai Premiere. A Big night awaits, but chai comes first!”
Fans on social media reacted positively to the images. One user wrote, “Before the red carpet, comes the chai break,” while another commented, “Tom having tea reminded me of Spiderman India Pavitr Prabhakar”.
