Imtiaz Ali’s partition-era romantic drama Main Vaapas Aaunga is finally coming to digital platforms. The film, which turned out to be one of the biggest surprise successes of 2026, will start streaming on Netflix from August 7, 2026. Netflix India made the official announcement on August 6, just one day before the digital premiere.
The movie originally hit theatres on June 12, 2026. It had a slow start but picked up momentum through strong word-of-mouth. The film completed a 50-day theatrical run and collected Rs 98.86 crore worldwide. It also became one of Imtiaz Ali’s top five highest-grossing films, crossing the lifetime collections of Jab We Met.

The film moves between two timelines. In the flashback sequences, Vedang Raina plays the young Ishar (known as Keenu) and Sharvari plays Jiya (also called Afsana), the woman he loved. Their love story was interrupted by the violence of Partition, which divided the subcontinent and separated two lives meant to stay together.

The film also became the eighth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2026, surpassing Alpha, The Kerala Story 2, and Chand Mera Dil.
Imtiaz Ali’s Collaboration with AR Rahman
This project marks the fifth collaboration between director Imtiaz Ali and composer A.R. Rahman. The duo previously worked together on films like Rockstar and Highway. Rahman’s soulful soundtrack added deep emotional resonance to the narrative.
