Elliot Page played a key role in Christopher Nolan‘s blockbuster The Odyssey, which has earned over USD 1.5 billion worldwide and become the second highest-grossing movie of the year. But despite the film’s massive success, the Oscar-nominated actor says he is not receiving many casting offers.
During a recent interview on the On Film… With Kevin McCarthy podcast, Page opened up about his career after starring in the summer hit. The actor, who plays the Greek soldier Sinon in Nolan’s epic adaptation, admitted that the phone is not ringing with new opportunities.
When host Kevin McCarthy asked Page if he was getting “a zillion calls” after the movie, Page gave a direct answer.
“No, Kevin, I’m not,” Page said with a laugh. “So, let’s — if someone wants to call me … “
McCarthy, surprised by the response, asked if Page really had no other project lined up.
“Not really,” Page replied. “I’d really love to do good work. That’s what I’d love to do.”
A Billion-Dollar Film With No Callbacks
The Odyssey, which hit theaters in July 2026, has become one of the biggest films of the year. The movie features an all-star cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron.
The film has earned approximately USD 1.552 billion globally, making it the 14th highest-grossing film of all time. It also surpassed the lifetime gross of Marvel’s The Avengers, which earned around USD 1.52 billion. The Odyssey became the highest-grossing R-rated film ever, overtaking Deadpool and Wolverine.
Despite these numbers, Page has not seen a flood of offers coming his way. Many industry watchers have even speculated that Page could receive an Oscar nomination for his performance as Sinon.
Page Jokes About the Reasons Behind the Silence
Page, who came out as transgender in 2020, addressed the lack of offers with a mix of honesty and humor. When asked about why he thinks Hollywood is not calling, he made a lighthearted comment.
“I think that’s probably for pretty obvious reasons: the Canadian thing,” Page joked
He also acknowledged that his identity has changed how the industry sees him.
“I was seen in a certain way before and it is different now,” Page said
The actor explained that he is considering being more proactive about reaching out to filmmakers instead of waiting for calls.
“Maybe there is something to reaching out to people and trying to create connections and projects that way,” Page said
He added:
“I think it’s a little tricky for me to get cast right now. I think that’s probably for obvious reasons.”
Feeling Comfortable and Ready for His Best Work
Page also reflected on his acting career before and after his transition. He recalled working with Nolan on Inception in 2010, long before he came out.
“I had such a great time being in that movie,” Page said. “I had such a great time working with [Nolan], but I was also personally really uncomfortable.”
He noted that playing the lead role in 2007’s Juno felt different.
“I was able to feel more comfortable and embodied or something like that,” Page said
Now, Page says he feels more at ease as an actor.
“I feel like I could maybe do some of my best work now,” Page said. “I’m not having to literally work through a performance that I don’t even quite know I’m doing to get to a performance.”
Returning to a Nolan set for The Odyssey was a meaningful experience for Page.
“When I wrapped on The Odyssey, I had a moment, like there was a full circle moment,” Page said, describing how he felt tears coming down his face
He explained that feeling more connected to himself has helped him let go more in his performances.
“Knowing yourself more and embodying yourself more, weirdly, lets you let go more,” Page said
Page’s Casting Faced Backlash But Won Over Critics
When Page was first cast in The Odyssey, his involvement received backlash from some right-wing social media users. Many incorrectly assumed that Nolan had cast him as the warrior Achilles. Nolan called the criticism “irrelevant”.
After the film’s release, critics widely praised Page’s performance as Sinon. Even some of his online detractors were won over by his work.
Page’s character Sinon appears in the early scenes of the movie. He is a soldier left with the Trojan horse while Odysseus and others hide inside. Sinon is killed early on, but Odysseus later encounters him again in the land of the dead.
Page shared that audiences have approached him to talk about how deeply Sinon’s scenes affected them.
“I’m not in the movie a ton,” Page noted, “but seeing Sinon resonate with audiences has really meant a lot.”

What’s Next for Page?
According to Page’s IMDb page, he does not have any major projects officially lined up. He recently finished voice work as Dusky in the upcoming animated action film Naya Legend of the Golden Dolphin.
Page previously starred in Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy as Viktor Hargreeves for four seasons, which wrapped in 2024. He also led the 2023 indie drama Close to You.
Page’s earlier career includes breakout roles in Hard Candy and Juno, which earned him an Oscar nomination. He also appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Nolan’s Inception.
Despite the current lack of offers, Page remains hopeful about his future in acting. He said he is not looking for a break and wants to keep working.
“I’d really love to do, ideally, good work,” Page said
He is also open to being more proactive in reaching out to directors and creators.
“If someone wants to call me … I’d love to do good work,” Page said
