The upcoming horror movie 418, backed by KGF and Salaar director Prashanth Neel, has run into a major roadblock with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film’s team has now approached the Revising Committee after the censor board raised objections about the movie’s horror content.
The film, which marks the directorial debut of Kirtan Nadagouda, was originally scheduled to release in theatres on July 31. But that date passed without the movie hitting screens. The certification process has not moved forward as expected, and the makers are now looking for a solution through the Revising Committee.
CBFC Objects to Horror Content in Horror Film
The main issue revolves around the CBFC’s objection to what they called “too many horror elements” in the film. According to reports, the Revising Committee has rejected the film’s clearance request multiple times. The board reportedly found the horror scenes and intense content excessive even for adult audiences.
This has created an ironic situation online. Many social media users have pointed out that a horror film getting stopped for having horror content does not make sense. One user wrote, “Horror movie having horror elements is a problem nowadays”. Another commented, “Horror movie should have horror elements otherwise what’s the point”.
Makers Approach Revising Committee to Resolve Deadlock
With the certification process stuck, the makers have now taken the matter to the Revising Committee. This committee is a higher authority within the CBFC system that reviews films when there are disagreements with the initial certification decision.
418 is produced by Mythri Movie Makers, one of the leading production houses in South India. Prashanth Neel is presenting the project, marking his first association with the horror genre. The director, known for blockbusters like KGF: Chapter 1, KGF: Chapter 2, and Salaar: Part One – Ceasefire, is currently working on other projects including Dragon with Jr NTR.
Cast and Production Details
The film stars Surya Raj, Charan Lakkaraju, and Preethi Pagadala in lead roles. Director Kirtan Nadagouda previously worked as an assistant director with Prashanth Neel on the KGF films.
The first look of the film was released in early July, which created curiosity among audiences. However, details about the plot have been kept under wraps. The film is positioned as a horror thriller in the Telugu language.
Social Media Reactions and Debate
The censor trouble has sparked a debate on social media about how horror films are treated in India. Many users are questioning the consistency of the certification process. They have pointed out that some A-rated films with extreme violence have been cleared without issues.
One social media user wrote about how other films with violent content got passed while 418 is facing repeated objections. Another user expressed frustration, saying they had been waiting for a horror film that would genuinely scare them, only to see this news. Some have suggested that the board should simply give the film an A (Adults Only) certificate and let it release.
Other Telugu Films Also Faced Censor Issues
418 is not the only Telugu film facing certification problems recently. Allari Naresh‘s film Rambha Urvasi Menaka reportedly faced objections over the costumes worn by its characters. Another film, Korean Kanakaraju, had to explain certain parts of its story to the authorities over concerns about its impact on India-Korea relations.

What Happens Next
For now, the film’s theatrical release remains uncertain. The team is expected to announce a new release date only after the certification issue is resolved. Interestingly, the censor trouble has also created more curiosity around the film. Some moviegoers now feel that if the film has unsettled the censor authorities so much, it could be a genuinely intense horror experience.
The makers are waiting for the Revising Committee’s decision. Until then, 418 remains stuck in the certification process with no confirmed release date.
