The team finally discovers who is really behind her kidnapping, but the truth makes the situation much worse. Joe comes face to face with her captor, and the episode ends with a brutal act that raises the stakes even higher.

The Past Timeline Reveals a Senator’s Dark Choice

The episode jumps between two time periods. Six months before Joe was taken, the CIA and FBI were dealing with a major security breach. Foreign intelligence had infiltrated American institutions, and the FBI had already arrested more than 37 people, including politicians and senior officials.

Senator Ryan Olson became a target after the CIA discovered he had been receiving money from Russian contacts through different accounts and companies. During a breakfast meeting with Mullins, Kaitlyn Meade, Byron, and Joe, the senator was given a choice. He could resign quietly and avoid prosecution, or face public arrest and treason charges.

Joe gave him a third option: to end his own life. The senator could not bring himself to warn his wife or step down while the news cycle was already focused on suspicious resignations. He chose death, driving his car into oncoming traffic. He died immediately, while the truck driver was badly injured.

Oleksandra Becomes the Key to Finding Joe

In the past timeline, Kyle had argued that the FBI’s witness protection program was not safe enough for Oleksa, an SVR spy who had been their key informant. He believed the Russians would eventually find and kill her. His solution was to bring her back and offer her a job with the CIA.

Mullins agreed but gave Kyle the job of finding her. Six months later, that assignment became essential. With Joe still missing, Kyle tracked Oleksa down in Tulsa, where she was living under the name Paige Weaver. He asked for her help.

Together, they realized the kidnapping operation did not match Russian methods at all. Their new theory pointed to a completely different enemy.

Iran Was Behind Joe’s Abduction All Along

The biggest reveal of the episode is that Iran was the real force behind Joe’s abduction. The Iranians had been using Russian assets as cover. This was not the enemy the CIA had been expecting.

With this new information, the team changed their approach. Oleksa pointed them toward the kidnappers’ likely safe houses. Randy and Tex searched the neighborhood. Kyle and his Delta Force contacts hunted for the specific aircraft the Iranians would need to get Joe out of the country. The rest of the team, including Cruz, stood by as backup.

Kyle’s team found the getaway plane first. They located the hangar and took the pilot and his helpers into custody without much resistance.

The Rescue Effort Has a Cruel Twist

Even though the team captured the plane, they still could not find Joe. Randy and Tex were searching the very neighborhood where she was being held, but they did not know it.

Inside the safe house, Joe finally came face to face with Babat, the man orchestrating her kidnapping. He promised her a brutal and dehumanizing fate once she was out of the country. Before the episode ended, he mutilated part of her foot and moved her again, setting up an alternate escape route.

The Team Wins a Battle but Loses the War

The episode closed with a painful reality. The team had won a tactical victory by capturing the plane and its crew. But they were still losing the war for Joe. She remained in enemy hands, now facing an even more desperate situation. Her captors were improvising a new way to get her out of the country.

With only two episodes left before the season finale on September 20, the next installment will need to answer whether the team can find Joe’s new escape route before Babat succeeds in getting her out of U.S. airspace for good.
