The Paper Season 2 has officially returned to the Toledo Truth Teller newsroom, bringing back its full ensemble cast and adding a fresh lineup of guest stars. All 10 episodes arrived on Peacock on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, with the UK and international audiences getting the season on Sky and NOW starting Thursday, September 10, 2026. The season picks up after the staff’s big win at the Ohio Journalism Awards, with editor-in-chief Ned Sampson chasing a new investigative story while trying to keep his relationship with reporter Mare Pritti under wraps.
Who Is Returning for The Paper Season 2
Every main cast member from Season 1 is back for the second season. The returning series regulars are Domhnall Gleeson as editor-in-chief Ned Sampson, Sabrina Impacciatore as managing editor Esmeralda Grand, Chelsea Frei as reporter Mare Pritti, Melvin Gregg as salesman and reporter Detrick Moore, Gbemisola Ikumelo as accountant and reporter Adelola Olofin, Tim Key as Ken Davies, Ramona Young as Nicole Lee, Eric Rahill as Travis Bienlien, Duane Shepard Sr. as Barry, Alex Edelman as accountant Adam Cooper, and Oscar Nuñez as Oscar Martinez.
Oscar Nuñez continues to link the show to its parent series, The Office, by reprising his role as Oscar Martinez, now working as an accountant and arts and leisure editor at the Truth Teller.
New Guest Stars Joining the Newsroom
Season 2 brings six guest stars to the Toledo newsroom, adding fresh faces to the comedy. Jon Lovitz, known for The Simpsons and A League of Their Own, joins the guest lineup. Andy Richter, famous for his work on Conan and Elf, also appears this season. Lisa Gilroy, known for Jury Duty, and Matt Braunger, known for Agent Carter and Up All Night, are part of the guest cast as well. Toks Olagundoye, known for Family Guy and Castle, rounds out the list alongside Phil Hendrie, known for Rick and Morty and F is for Family.
Matt Braunger appears as a character named Dan in the new season.
What Happens in The Paper Season 2
The new season follows Ned as he searches for a major journalistic story after the Truth Teller’s award wins. His investigation targets a local private club, a story that puts the entire newspaper at risk. At the same time, Ned and Mare are figuring out their romantic feelings for each other, and Esmeralda struggles to find her place in the newsroom as the staff grows more confident as reporters.
The season also expands beyond Toledo, with a major storyline set at the fictional Cincinnati Chronicle. The production team filmed those scenes inside the real Los Angeles Times newsroom in El Segundo, California, to create a sense of a bigger, more professional newspaper compared to the Toledo office. The show itself remains set in Toledo, Ohio.
Ned and Mare’s Relationship Takes Center Stage
Season 1 ended with Ned and Mare sharing a kiss after the Ohio Journalism Awards. Season 2 picks up right after that moment, with Mare unsure about where things stand after Ned treats her coldly at work. A stairwell kiss after their shift shows that Ned wants to keep their relationship private from the rest of the staff. Ned is the editor-in-chief and Mare is his reporter, so their secret romance creates a real workplace conflict for both of them.
Domhnall Gleeson and Chelsea Frei both spoke about the challenge of developing this secret romance throughout the season.
The Office Connection Continues
The same documentary crew that followed the Dunder Mifflin Scranton branch in The Office is back to film the Toledo Truth Teller staff. The show is created by Greg Daniels, who developed the American version of The Office, and Michael Koman, known for Nathan for You. Executive producers include Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, and Ben Silverman.
