Netflix’s latest teen sports drama Crew Girl brings rowing, rivalry, and romance to the small screen. The eight-episode series premiered on September 10, 2026, and quickly became a talking point among YA drama fans. Set in the elite world of Easton Prep, the story follows 16-year-old Teagan Tao, a gifted rower whose life is turned upside down by a family scandal. Forced to move across the country with her mother, Teagan lands at a prestigious school with no girls’ rowing team. Her only path back to the water is as coxswain for the boys’ varsity crew — a role that throws her into a world of old money, fierce competition, and a love triangle. The series stars a mix of rising talents and familiar faces, each bringing something unique to the show’s central conflicts.
Miku Martineau as Teagan Tao
Miku Martineau leads the cast as Teagan Tao, the show’s determined protagonist. Martineau is a Canadian actress known for her roles in Kate (2021), Honor Society (2022), Star Trek: Section 31, and the Netflix series Bet. She plays Teagan as a fiercely driven athlete who has to shift from being a solo sculler to leading a team that does not want her. The character wrestles with the loss of her old life while trying to prove herself in a new, hostile environment. Showrunner Vivian Lin praised Martineau’s ability to balance vulnerability and confidence, saying she can play both sides at once. “She can be so vulnerable but still not lose that confidence,” Lin told Netflix’s Tudum. “Also, you’d completely believe that she is a badass; that girl could go to the Olympics.”
Martineau herself has spoken about what drew her to Teagan. “What I love about Teagan is she has a passion,” she said. “She also recognizes that she’s still a young girl and gives herself grace to make mistakes.” The actress hopes young women watching the show feel empowered to do the same.
Sam Braun as Josh Regis
Sam Braun plays Josh Regis, the golden boy of Easton Prep’s rowing team. Josh comes from a powerful family whose name is on the boathouse. He is entitled, privileged, and used to getting his way — until Teagan arrives and disrupts his world. Braun, a Canadian actor, has appeared in The Marshmallow Experiment, Time Cut, Bad Genius, and had early roles in Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters and Superman & Lois. Crew Girl marks his first major lead role.
Lin described the difficulty of finding an actor who could make Josh both obnoxious and charming. “The big pivot is after you can’t stand him, he’s going to win you back,” she said. “It was actually my most nervous moment of the show. Sam is so considerate, charming. He brings so much vulnerability to Josh in such an unexpected way.” Braun explained Josh’s attraction to Teagan simply: “She’s not fake in any way. He’s yearning for that blank slate. He’s been putting on this mask for so long, and he just wants to be himself.”
Kyle Clark as Cam Dillinger
Kyle Clark takes on the role of Cam Dillinger, the underdog of the rowing team. Cam is a townie and a financial aid student — known at Easton as a “faid” — who keeps his guard up. He is the best rower on the team but is often overlooked for the stroke seat in favor of the flashier Regis rowers. Clark is a Canadian actor whose previous credits include The Baby-Sitters Club, Home Before Dark, Riverdale, and Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between. He described the physical demands of the role, noting that the cast underwent rigorous training. “It’s just everything you have for 2,000 meters,” he said of the erg score his character achieves. Lin praised Clark’s natural warmth, saying he brought a whole other layer to the character.
Jessica Paré as Ella Tao
Jessica Paré plays Ella Tao, Teagan’s mother. Paré is a Canadian actress best known for her role as Megan Draper in Mad Men and as Mandy Ellis in SEAL Team. Her film credits include Stardom, Lost and Delirious, Wicker Park, and Hot Tub Time Machine. In Crew Girl, Ella is an optimist who once dreamed of a bigger life. After the family scandal, she scrambles to rebuild while discovering her own hidden talents. Martineau spoke about working with Paré: “She has such free-spirited, fun, playful energy. It’s really good to have in contrast with Teagan. Teagan feels the need to parent her parent.”
Thomas Cadrot as Coach Matt Hayden
Thomas Cadrot rounds out the main cast as Coach Matt Hayden. Cadrot is a French-born actor known for the Merry Liddle movie trilogy opposite Kelly Rowland and the sci-fi series Debris. He has also appeared in Scream VI, So Help Me Todd, and Charmed. Coach Hayden is a widowed father raising his 16-year-old daughter, Madison, while coaching Easton Prep’s struggling rowing team. He is tough but caring, and he shares a romantic history with Ella Tao — the “one that got away.”
The Supporting Crew and Easton Prep Students
The rowing team features several key supporting players. Connor Paton plays Ryder Regis, Josh’s cousin and rival, who is driven by a chip on his shoulder. Jude Wilson plays Bronson “Baloo” Garner, the heart of the boat who crumbles under pressure. Vincent Muller plays Damon Quaid, the team’s powerhouse. Riley Davis plays Noah Bainbridge, who brings a refined sensibility to the crew. Connor Wong plays Perry Chou, the trend-focused rower. Jarrett Carlington plays Chris “Crabcatcher” Padmore, a junior rower prone to mistakes. Aiden Howard plays Liam, the team’s former coxswain.
At Easton Prep, Olga Petsa plays Juliet Morny, Teagan’s stylish first-day friend. Sage Linder plays Britney, the queen bee who rules the school with an icy smile. Alaska Leigh plays Amber, Britney’s best friend. Hana Huggins plays Madison, Coach Hayden’s daughter. Lucia Walters plays Senator DeeDee Garner, Baloo and Britney’s mother. Niall Matter plays Richard Regis, Josh’s demanding father. Byron Lawson plays David Tao, Teagan’s supportive father. The series also features a cameo from Kesha, who appears as herself in a Cameo video message.

The series debuted with a 100% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes before settling at 73% after additional reviews. A review from The Wrap called it a charming entry in Netflix’s YA lineup, while The Hollywood Reporter noted that it checks all the expected boxes for the genre. The show was created by Vivian Lin, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer.
