Preity Zinta has been part of Indian cinema for nearly three decades. She has appeared in more than 50 films. Still, the actress says she cannot sit through her own movies. In a new interview with Hindustan Times, she opened up about this unusual feeling. She spoke alongside her Vibe co-star Vanshika Dhir. The two actors discussed their experiences on the film and the emotions that come with seeing themselves on screen.
Why Preity Zinta Avoids Watching Her Own Films
Preity Zinta was direct about her discomfort. She said she finds it hard to judge her own work.
“I can never judge myself on screen. I don’t see myself on screen. Once my movie is done, I don’t watch it. I feel very awkward sitting through. It’s not like I don’t want to watch, but I cannot. I find it very unusual. I find myself thinking: ‘I could have done this better.’”
This feeling has stayed with her across her career. Even after decades in front of the camera, the actress says she still focuses on what she could have changed. She compared her experience to that of her co-star Vanshika Dhir. Vanshika is making her acting debut with Vibe. The newcomer said she was surprised to see herself on the film’s promotional poster. She also described feeling impostor syndrome when she watched herself on the big screen at the trailer launch.
Preity agreed with Vanshika. She said this feeling of self-doubt never quite goes away. The two actors reflected on how seeing themselves on screen brings different emotions. For Preity, it brings a critical eye rather than simple enjoyment.
Preity Zinta on Doing Her Own Action Scenes in Vibe
Vibe marks a new kind of role for Preity Zinta. She plays Madam H, a super spy who recruits two unlikely men for a secret mission. The recruits are played by Kunal Kemmu and Sparsh Shrivastava. The role required Preity to perform several action sequences. She said doing her own stunts was a constant negotiation.
“It’s always a negotiation. I am falling off the steps. But I wanted to do most of it.”
She explained that action scenes involve many technicalities. There are trained professionals paid to handle these sequences. She said actors cannot take their jobs away from them. She also gave credit to the action team for their hard work behind every scene.
Preity recalled getting kicked and punched during the shoot. She said the experience looked far more exciting on film than it felt while filming. She described the process as very technical. The action sequences also meant long working hours. Preity has said she worked 18-hour shifts on Vibe to finish the film faster and return to her children in the US.
Kunal Kemmu on Casting Preity Zinta as Madam H
Kunal Kemmu directed Vibe. It is his second film as a director after Madgaon Express. He also wrote, produced, and acted in the film. Kemmu has shared why he wanted Preity Zinta for the role of Madam H.
Kemmu said he cast her because audiences have not seen her in a role like this before. He called it the best casting for the part. He also revealed that Preity improvised a line that made it into the final cut. The line is a callback to her 1998 film Soldier. In the scene, she chose to say “Come on now, be a soldier” before leaving the frame. This small addition connects her new spy role to her earlier work.
The film also features a shared universe with Madgaon Express. Reports suggest the two films are part of the same cinematic world.

Preity Zinta also spoke about the box office failure of her last release, Batwara 1947. The Partition drama, starring Sunny Deol, underperformed in theatres. Preity said she believes in working hard and leaving the rest to the world. She hopes audiences will like Vibe and support good films in theatres.
