Elsbeth Season 4 arrived on Thursday, October 8, 2026, and it brought a new time slot, a full-season order, and a guest list that reads like a awards-season lineup. Carrie Preston is back as the quirky consent-decree attorney, but this year her biggest case might be at home. Her son Teddy is getting married, her estranged mother is coming to town, and a precinct shake-up is putting new pressure on Captain Wagner.
The season is confirmed for 20 episodes, a bigger order than previous years, and it airs every Thursday at 9 PM ET/PT on CBS before streaming on Paramount+. That episode count alone is a major piece of news for fans who followed the show’s earlier, shorter seasons.
Every Confirmed Episode Date for Elsbeth Season 4
The first two episodes have confirmed titles and air dates. Episode 3’s title is known, but only the first two have full CBS synopses at this point. The schedule below follows the Thursday-night pattern confirmed by Paramount+ and CBS.
- Episode 1 — “Crazy in Love”: Thursday, October 8, 2026. Elsbeth faces marriage counselor Serena Collyer (guest star Nicole Scherzinger), whose calm exterior hides a murderous secret. Teddy sets a wedding date, and Gloria Reuben returns as Claudia Payne.
- Episode 2 — “Death of a Playwright”: Thursday, October 15, 2026. A young playwright’s suspicious death rattles the New York theater world, leaving several suspects. Captain Wagner faces pressure from the new mayor over the city’s murder rate.
- Episode 3 — “Consciously Unsistered”: Thursday, October 22, 2026. The title is confirmed, and this is the episode where Christine Ebersole arrives as Elsbeth’s mother, Lydia Guðmundsdóttir, coming to New York from Peoria to help with wedding plans.
- Episode 4: Thursday, October 29, 2026. The family story crosses paths with a murder case, and Elsbeth and Teddy meet Roy’s parents.
- Episode 5: Thursday, November 5, 2026.
CBS has not released titles or synopses for episodes beyond the first five, and the full 20-episode schedule will run deep into 2027 if the show follows a standard broadcast calendar without major breaks.
The New Faces Coming to the 11th Precinct
The season’s guest-star lineup is one of the biggest talking points. Christine Ebersole has a recurring role as Elsbeth’s mother, while Uzo Aduba and Tyne Daly appear as guest stars. Ebersole’s arrival is tied directly to the wedding storyline, and showrunner Jonathan Tolins confirmed the family tension is built into the season’s DNA.
“We have these two women who love each other but are always having difficulty understanding each other, and it’s a lot of fun,” Tolins told TV Insider.
Carrie Preston also spoke about what Ebersole brings to the role.
“She really came in fully ready with the character, and we were like, ‘Oh, there’s mom. There she is! No rehearsal required,’” Preston told TODAY.com.
Other guest stars include Sam Richardson, Nat Faxon, Lea Michele, Nicholas Braun, Nicole Scherzinger, Jemima Kirke, and New York Knicks player OG Anunoby. Scherzinger opens the season as Serena Collyer. Braun plays Jeremy Perrick, the son of a famous playwright. Kirke plays Winter Redgrave, a lifestyle-brand CEO whose sister threatens a takeover.
Things You Might Not Know About Season 4
The show moved to Thursday nights for the first time this season, a shift from its previous Sunday slot. Filming took place across New York City in 2026, including Downtown Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Long Island City, keeping the show’s New York identity intact.
Teddy’s wedding date is May 1, which Elsbeth is happy about because it falls in her “color season”. That detail is small, but it ties directly into the family storyline that runs through the first half of the season.
The show’s creative team also confirmed that Carra Patterson’s Kaya Blanke could return in the first half of the season, and the door is open for Sarah Steele’s Marissa Gold from The Good Fight to appear. Will Patton’s Mike Tascioni, Elsbeth’s ex-husband, has been discussed as a possible wedding-season return, though nothing is confirmed.
