Chris Pratt has confirmed that Star-Lord is not done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor said Marvel Studios has moved past just talking about a comeback and has taken real steps to make it happen. While he could not share a date or project, Pratt made it clear that Peter Quill will return.
What Chris Pratt Said About Star-Lord’s Return
Speaking on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast while promoting The Terminal List Season 2, Pratt explained that his conversations with Marvel leadership have moved into a concrete phase. He named Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president, and Lou D’Esposito, co-president, as the people he has been working with on the return.
“I have a great relationship with Kevin [Feige] and Lou [D’Esposito], and there have been both ongoing conversations about how we make good on that promise and also hard action taken to make sure that we make good on that promise.”
“So yeah, you’ll see Star-Lord again, which is very exciting, but I’m not at liberty to say when that’s going to be, but he’s not going anywhere.”
Marvel Studios declined to comment on the matter when asked by Variety.
The Promise Marvel Made in 2023
The return traces back to the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, released on May 5, 2023. A title card after the film read: “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return.” The movie ended with Quill leaving the Guardians and going back to Earth to reconnect with his grandfather.
More than three years have passed since that promise appeared on screen. No Marvel project with Star-Lord has been officially announced since then.
Where Fans Think Star-Lord Will Show Up Next
Pratt is not among the actors confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, which arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026. The official Doomsday watchlist also left the Guardians of the Galaxy films off entirely.
Online conversation has pointed toward Avengers: Secret Wars instead. Under a post about Pratt’s comments on X, fans shared their guesses.
“I mean he’s 100% in Secret Wars,” one reply read. Another simply said, “Secret Wars confirmed.”
“He’s definitely showing up in Doomsday or Secret Wars. With the Multiverse Saga reaching its peak, having the legendary Star-Lord back on Earth interacting with the new Avengers is going to be cinema.”
A separate rumor reported by Cosmic Book News mentioned that a cosmic team-up featuring Star-Lord, Nova, and Silver Surfer is in development for the MCU’s next saga.
