Tracker Season 4 Episode 4, titled “Purification,” aired on CBS on Sunday, October 25, 2026, and delivered the season’s darkest case yet. A missing file clerk named Nicole Dunning led Colter Shaw into a disturbing abuse ring run by a former preacher who forced his own son to drink bleach. The episode ended with both victims safe, the villain in custody, and the team finally securing a real office. A possible new romance for Colter also moved forward, giving the season its first light personal thread.
What Happened Previously
Season 3 ended with Colter learning the full truth about his father Ashton Shaw‘s death and the secret government program he tried to shut down. Russell Shaw (Jensen Ackles) paid a visit to McIntyre with a file containing disturbing information about something Ashton allegedly did to Colter as a child. That cliffhanger carried into Season 4.
The Season 4 premiere, “Safe Harbor,” sent Colter to the Port of Los Angeles to find a missing father and take down a human smuggling operation. “Switchback” and “Original Parts” followed, with the third episode taking Colter to Texas and teasing a possible love interest named Jenna Nova (Gillian Bolt). The team spent the first three episodes without an office after their previous space was found to have undisclosed mold.
Nicole Dunning’s Disappearance in Danville, Utah
Nicole Dunning (Iman Benson) was last seen sitting alone on a park swing in Danville, Utah, crying over a breakup. A hooded figure rushed out of the bushes and pulled her away. She missed her father’s birthday dinner, which was unlike her, and stopped answering her phone.
Her father, Roy Dunning (Troy Winbush), contacted Randy Davis (Chris Lee) and offered an $8,000 reward for Colter’s help. Roy would only speak to Colter directly. Colter met Roy at Nicole’s apartment, where they found her phone left behind and a box of cupcakes in the trash. Randy traced the cupcake sender to Stephen Jones (Kanoa Goo), a married finance worker.
Stephen denied knowing Nicole until Colter threatened to tell his wife. He then admitted to an affair with Nicole and said they met at the park the night she vanished to end things. Stephen left her alone in a park known for assaults. Colter’s response to Stephen’s worry about his family became the episode’s sharpest line.
“Just go lie to your wife or something, you’re good at that. Figure it out.” — Colter Shaw
The Teenage Runaway and the Tiger Club Clue
Nicole’s car turned up at a gas station being towed, its back smashed and its plates stripped. The station clerk, Fernando (Izzy Diaz), had been assaulted the night before. He told Colter that Nicole had arrived with a frightened teenager who had burn marks on his hands. A camper truck rammed her car, and the driver knocked Fernando out.
A hoodie left in Nicole’s back seat carried a two-headed tiger logo and a hospital barcode. Mel Day (Cassady McClincy Zhang) identified the barcode as hospital-issued. The logo belonged to Tiger Club International, a nearby club that had revoked the membership of a man named Tate Montgomery for creepy behavior.
Colter found Tate’s camper van outside Tate’s old house. Inside, he discovered a mattress on the floor, chains on the wall, and Tate’s mummified body in a closet. Tate had been dead for years. Someone had been using his identity, his van, and his Social Security checks.
The Basement of Horrors and the Purification Abuse
Randy found that Elias Williams (Brian Stepanek) was Tate’s stepson and had been cashing Tate’s checks for years. Elias was a former preacher who had not worked in a pulpit for some time. A camcorder in the house revealed the truth: Elias had been holding his own son, Jason, captive in the basement and torturing him.
Reenie Greene (Fiona Rene) confirmed that Jason was forced to drink bleach as a form of “purification.” That abuse explained the burn marks and the hospital barcode on his hoodie. Elias and his wife Cheryl (Sarah Chaney) were religious extremists who believed their cruelty was justified.
Colter tracked Elias to a storage unit, but Cheryl pulled up in the camper van and drove them away with Nicole and Jason in the back. Cheryl was furious that Elias had taken Nicole, but Elias saw Nicole as a gift and planned to keep her.
The Van Crash and the Final Rescue
Nicole broke free of her restraints and choked Cheryl until she passed out, sending the van off the road in a violent crash. Colter reached the wreck and found Cheryl unconscious in the driver’s seat. Nicole and Jason had already escaped into the woods, with Elias chasing them.
Jason tried to distract his father to give Nicole a chance to fight back. Elias overpowered her until Colter arrived and knocked him to the ground. Nicole was reunited with Roy at the hospital. Jason was sent to live with an estranged aunt in Texas. Reenie later told Colter that Jason had been pulled out of school at age six and held in the basement ever since.
Character Progress Breakdown
Colter Shaw worked the case with his usual methodical patience but showed visible disgust at Stephen’s treatment of Nicole. He saved two lives without relying on brute force, and the episode closed with him receiving a visit from Jenna Nova, continuing the romance thread from Episode 3.
Reenie Greene carried the team’s personal storyline by securing a new office. She saw the space, had wine with the landowner, and signed the lease on the spot. The office has history, needs work, and comes with a vault.
Randy Davis started the episode still officeless after the mold problem. He tracked the cupcake sender, the Tiger Club lead, and Elias’s financial trail from his makeshift setup.
Mel Day helped identify the hospital barcode on Jason’s hoodie and assisted Reenie with the office hunt. Her medical knowledge gave Colter the connection he needed between the abused teenager and the hospital.
Nicole Dunning emerged as the episode’s quiet hero. She could have walked away from Jason and protected herself, but she chose to help him and later fought back against Cheryl to give them both a chance to escape.
Jason Williams survived years of torture at the hands of his parents. He still found the courage to distract his father during the final chase, and he left the episode with a fresh start in Texas.
Elias Williams was the episode’s villain: a former preacher who twisted scripture to justify imprisoning and poisoning his own son. He was taken into custody after Colter stopped him in the woods.
Cheryl Williams enabled her husband’s abuse and drove the getaway van. Nicole knocked her unconscious during the crash, and she was left behind at the wreck.
