Park Bo Gum, Lee Sang Yi, and Go Kyung Pyo are highly skilled at running a hair salon. Understanding the local customers in Tongyeong is a completely different story. The first teaser for tvN’s The Village Barber 2, released on October 26, shows the three men opening a seaside salon and quickly running into a language barrier with the Gyeongsang dialect spoken by residents. The clip has already become a talking point for the way it mixes professional confidence with complete confusion.

What Happens in the Teaser

The teaser opens with the trio setting up their salon in Tongyeong, a small coastal city in South Gyeongsang Province. Park Bo Gum returns as the salon’s lead barber, now holding a national hairdressing certification after passing on his second attempt. He performs perm treatments himself. Lee Sang Yi handles nail services, and new cast member Ko Kyung Pyo manages customer service.

Their upgraded skills do not last long against the local speech. The customers speak quickly in the Gyeongsang dialect, and the three men cannot follow the conversation. Lee Sang Yi says plainly:

“I’m sorry, I couldn’t understand a single thing.”

The teaser also includes a child customer who delivers a blunt answer. Park Bo Gum asks the child, “Doesn’t my dialect sound weird, uncle?” The child replies “Yes” without hesitation, which adds to the light tone of the clip.

A Dialect Quiz Adds to the Fun

The teaser features a quiz on Tongyeong dialect expressions. The three men are asked to guess the meanings of local words such as “paida,” “ibagu,” and “maengkki.” Their attempts to work out the meanings are part of the teaser’s playful approach to the language gap. The production team has framed the dialect struggle as one of the season’s main sources of humor, alongside the trio’s improved salon skills.

Park Bo Gum’s New Certification and Ko Kyung Pyo’s Addition

Park Bo Gum earned his National Technical Qualification in General Hairdressing ahead of Season 2. He already held a barber license obtained during his military service, but the general hairdressing certification allows him to perform a wider range of treatments, including perms. The exam has an average pass rate of 20 to 30 percent, according to the show’s announcement.

Ko Kyung Pyo joins the cast as a new member, replacing Kwak Dong Yeon, who left due to military enlistment. Park Bo Gum and Ko Kyung Pyo have been close friends for over a decade and previously worked together on the dramas Naeil’s Cantabile and Reply 1988. Their long friendship is expected to bring a comfortable dynamic to the salon.
