Sheriff Country Season 2 Episode 4, titled โMaria,โ delivered the biggest emotional payoff of the season so far. The episode aired on CBS on Friday, October 30, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The hour closed out the Stoyanov trafficking storyline, brought Wes Fox home alive, and forced Mickey Fox to face the mother who abandoned her decades ago. The episode also featured a crossover guest appearance from Fire Country star Jordan Calloway as Jake Crawford.
The story picked up right after Wes blew his undercover role and was captured by the Bulgarian cartel. Wes had been working with the DEA as a confidential informant. The Stoyanov family ran a trafficking operation out of Deadwater, and Wes had been trying to help the women they were holding. Episode 4 turned that rescue mission into a full-scale manhunt across the mountains of Edgewater.
Wes Fox Leads the Trafficked Women Through the Woods
The episode opened with Wes Fox (W. Earl Brown) on the run with a group of trafficked women. Molly (Claire Qute) and the other women followed Wes through the trees as a four-wheeler closed in on them. Wes doubled back and shot the rider, bringing the vehicle down. He warned the group that an army of cartel men was out there and that they could not stay on the trail.
Wes led the women to a hidden cabin in the woods. The cabin was laced with traps, including bear traps, and Wes told the women to step exactly where he stepped. A cartel gunman followed them and got caught in one of the traps. Wes took the manโs weapon and used it to keep the group moving.
One of the women, Priya, was pregnant and injured her ankle during the escape. Wes made the difficult call to split the group. He sent Molly and two other women ahead while he stayed behind to help Priya. That decision put Wes in more danger, but it also showed a different side of him. For once, Wes was not running from his past. He was putting himself on the line to get these women out alive.
Mickey and Eva Work Together to Find Wes
Back at the sheriffโs office, Mickey Fox (Morena Baccarin) was racing against time. Nathan Boone (Matt Lauria) introduced Mickey to Parker Chase (Andy McQueen), the operator of a company called Skotos AI. Parker had a military-grade drone equipped with thermal imaging. He promised the drone could find Wes and the women in the mountains. Mickey gave the order to get the drone in the air.
The drone found five heat signatures in the woods. Mickey and Eva Santos (Rachel Ticotin) headed into the mountains together. The partnership was not easy. Eva is the woman who gave birth to Mickey, but she vanished when Mickey was a child and let Mickey believe she was dead. Working side by side forced both women to push their personal history aside for the sake of the rescue.
Jordan Calloway appeared as Jake Crawford from Fire Country. Jake showed up at the sheriffโs office and offered whatever help Station 42 could provide. He also shared a quiet moment with Cassidy Campbell (Michele Weaver), telling her he was taking his wife to their old church. The crossover kept the Fire Country universe connected without pulling focus from the main story.
Mickey and Eva tracked the group through the drone feed. Shots were fired during the standoff in the mountains. Mickey and Eva took down two of the cartel gunmen. Jake helped treat one of the women who was shot during the escape. Wes and the remaining woman made it to safety. Mickey hugged her father when they finally found him. The relief on her face was real, but so was the anger underneath it. Wes had lied to her, gone undercover without telling her, and put himself in danger. The rescue did not erase any of that.
The Stoyanov Empire Crumbles
The rescue of Wes and the women was only part of the mission. The Stoyanov cartel was still out there. The DEA had been tracking Konstantin โSonnyโ Stoyanov Jr. (Alex Hurt) and his family. A lead suggested the Stoyanovs were heading to Peru, but that turned out to be a decoy. The real break came when the team tracked down Sonnyโs mother. Sonnyโs father was still in a hospital, and the DEA raided the hospital to find part of the cartel family.
Mickey convinced Sonnyโs mother to help the Feds. That cooperation led to Sonnyโs arrest. The DEA also found a source named Petar who knew about Sonnyโs business, but someone killed Petar before he could talk. One of the trafficked women, Priya, was still in danger. Sonnyโs men found out where Priya was and came after her. The team got to Priya in time. Sonny was taken into custody, and the trafficking operation that had haunted Deadwater was dismantled.
The episode moved fast in its second half. Some viewers might have expected the Stoyanov threat to stretch across more episodes. Instead, the show wrapped the cartel story in a single hour. The speed of the resolution left more room for the personal fallout, especially the reckoning between Mickey and Eva.
Booneโs Health Hits a Breaking Point
The manhunt took a toll on Nathan Boone. Boone had been pushing through the operation while hiding an injury. Cassidy Campbell was the first to notice that something was wrong. Boone kept working anyway. He threw up while Mickey picked him up from the Drake County sheriffโs office. He had been drinking. Mickey pressed him about how he handled the Elliot case, and the argument left Boone upset with himself.
Cassidy encouraged Boone to step back. He took her advice and planned to take a week or so away from the job. For a character who has always been the steady one, the moment marked a notable shift. Booneโs feelings for Mickey had been pushing him toward reckless decisions. The show did not resolve that tension, but it did show Boone finally admitting that he could not keep carrying everything on his own.

Eva Santos Says Goodbye to Mickey and Skye
The title of the episode, โMaria,โ pointed directly at the emotional core of the hour. Maria Fox was the name Mickeyโs mother used when she was married to Wes. Maria was the woman Mickey idolized as a child. Maria was the mother Mickey mourned. But Maria was also a cover. Eva Santos was the real person. When Maria โdied,โ so did the cover. Eva understood that distinction, and she respected Mickey for making it.
In the final stretch of the episode, Eva apologized to Mickey and Skye Fraley (Amanda Arcuri). Eva admitted that she had little choice in the past, but she regretted the pain she caused. She promised to do better. Mickey listened. She did not offer a full forgiveness. Mickey told Eva that the woman she idolized, Maria Fox, died when she was six years old. Nothing had changed about that. Eva had come into Mickeyโs life, but she was not her mother. She was not the woman Mickey remembered.
โMaria was a cover. Yes, she fell in love with Wes and started a family, but it was always a cover. Everything about that identity was a lie. Eva is the real person. When Maria died, so did that cover.โ

Mickey turned down Evaโs request to stay in contact. The hurt was still too fresh. Eva shared a last moment with Skye and left Edgewater again. This time, Wes was determined to win Eva back. The episode ended with Wes preparing to leave on a vacation, but his mind was clearly still on Eva.

What โMariaโ Means for Mickey Fox
Sheriff Country has spent much of Season 2 exploring what it means for Mickey to be a mother. Mickey grew up without her mother. She spent time in foster homes when Wes was in jail. She built walls around herself to survive. In โMaria,โ Mickey got to be the caring, present parent she never had. She refused to let Skye leave the precinct without apologizing for keeping her in the dark about Wes. Mickey chose to be better than Eva. She chose to show up for her daughter in a way her own mother never did.
The episode did not give viewers a clean, happy reunion. It gave them something more honest. Mickey got closure, but closure did not mean reconciliation. Eva got to say her piece, but saying sorry did not undo decades of absence. Wes got to be a hero, but his heroics did not erase the lies he told. Boone got to admit he needed help, but admitting it did not fix everything. โMariaโ worked because it let every character sit with the messy truth of who they are.
