The romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam, which originally released in 2016 starring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, is reportedly getting a sequel. The film, directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, gained popularity for its music and performances, even though it did not fare well at the box office. Now, eight years later, the directors are said to be working on a new chapter of the story.
Sequel Currently in Early Stages of Production
According to sources close to the production, the sequel is still in the early stages of development. The source revealed, “The makers are keen on producing a sequel to Sanam Teri Kasam. However, the project is in its initial phase, and the casting process has just begun. The film is still in pre-production, and much of the work remains.”
Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane Not Returning
One notable change is that Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane will not be reprising their roles in the sequel. Instead, the filmmakers have decided to introduce a new cast. “The sequel will feature fresh faces, as the creators wanted to take a different direction with the casting. Auditions for the main leads are currently underway, and the supporting cast will be finalized afterward,” the source added. The upcoming sequel has been titled Jaanam Teri Kasam.
Focus on Music and Fresh Talent
The sequel Jaanam Teri Kasam is set to be a musical, which aligns with the expectations set by its predecessor’s popular soundtrack. The directors are searching for a female lead who not only fits the character’s visual requirements but also possesses singing talent. “The team is looking for a young female lead between the ages of 18 to 20, who has the appearance and vibe of a singer. They want someone who can convincingly portray a musical artist, similar to the feel of Aashiqui 2,” the source explained.
The development of Jaanam Teri Kasam marks a significant step for Rao and Sapru, as they revisit a project that, despite its initial commercial performance, maintained a strong fan following due to its music and emotional narrative.
