The Haunted Palace blends historical fantasy, romance, and comedy, centering on a shaman, a dragon spirit (Imugi), and a vengeful ghost. Kim Ji-yeon highlighted the drama’s distinct approach, noting that the spirits in the story have layered backstories rather than being purely frightening. Chemistry with Yook Sung-jae and Kim Ji-hoon
Kim Ji-yeon described her working relationship with Yook Sung-jae, who plays dual roles as her first love, Yoon Gap, and the dragon spirit Kang Cheol. The two have been friends for years, which made filming comfortable. She differentiated the romantic tones between Yeori’s relationships—melodramatic with Yoon Gap and comedic with Kang Cheol .
