Kim Ji-yeon, who plays the lead role of Yeori in the upcoming SBS drama The Haunted Palace, shared details about her preparation for the character. Yeori is the granddaughter of a renowned shaman but chooses to live as an eyeglass artisan, rejecting her spiritual destiny. To portray the role realistically, Kim Ji-yeon consulted with real shamans, observed rituals, and learned traditional chants and dances. She emphasized making the character authentic despite the dramaโ€™s fantasy elements .

The Unique Fantasy Element of the Drama

The Haunted Palace blends historical fantasy, romance, and comedy, centering on a shaman, a dragon spirit (Imugi), and a vengeful ghost. Kim Ji-yeon highlighted the dramaโ€™s distinct approach, noting that the spirits in the story have layered backstories rather than being purely frightening. The ritual scenes incorporate Korean dance, adding a visually striking and mystical quality .

Chemistry with Yook Sung-jae and Kim Ji-hoon

Kim Ji-yeon described her working relationship with Yook Sung-jae, who plays dual roles as her first love, Yoon Gap, and the dragon spirit Kang Cheol. The two have been friends for years, which made filming comfortable. She differentiated the romantic tones between Yeoriโ€™s relationshipsโ€”melodramatic with Yoon Gap and comedic with Kang Cheol .

She also praised co-star Kim Ji-hoon (Lee Jung), calling him a reliable senior who contributed intense performances. The dynamic between the three leadsโ€”Kang Cheol, Yeori, and Lee Jungโ€”adds depth to the story .
