Taylor Swift and Blake Lively’s longtime friendship has reportedly hit a rough patch due to the legal drama between Lively and actor Justin Baldoni. Sources claim Swift wants no part in the controversy and has stepped back from their close bond.
The legal battle started in December 2024 when Lively accused Baldoni, her co-star and director in the film It Ends With Us, of sexual harassment. Baldoni denied the claims and countersued Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds for defamation and extortion, seeking $400 million.
Swift was dragged into the dispute when Baldoni’s legal team subpoenaed her, claiming she had influence over the film. However, Swift’s team strongly denied any involvement beyond licensing her song My Tears Ricochet for the movie.
“Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film,” her spokesperson said.
The subpoena was later withdrawn after Baldoni’s lawyers said they got the information they needed. But the damage to Swift and Lively’s friendship may already be done.
Friendship Under Strain
Multiple sources say Swift and Lively’s friendship has “halted” because of the legal drama. “Taylor wants no part in this drama,” an insider revealed. Another source said they are “taking some space” but haven’t completely ended their friendship.
A different report claimed Swift regrets ever becoming friends with Lively. “Right now, if Taylor had one wish it would be that she never met Blake,” a source said. The legal battle seems to have been the final straw for Swift, who reportedly feels Lively misused their friendship.
Lively allegedly referred to Swift and Reynolds as her “dragons” in text messages, suggesting they would protect her in conflicts. Baldoni’s legal team used these messages to argue that Lively used her high-profile friends to gain control over the film.
Legal Battles and Fallout
Lively first filed a complaint against Baldoni in December 2024, accusing him of sexual harassment on the It Ends With Us set. Baldoni denied the allegations, calling them “categorically false.” He then sued Lively and Reynolds, claiming they tried to damage his reputation.
The case took another turn when Baldoni’s lawyers subpoenaed Swift, seeking texts between her and Lively. They claimed Lively pressured Swift to publicly support her in the legal fight. Lively’s lawyers called these claims “categorically false.”
The judge later struck down Baldoni’s allegations, warning his legal team against further misconduct. The trial is set for March 2026, where both Lively and Baldoni are expected to testify.
Other Friends Taking Sides
The drama has also affected Lively’s friendship with model Gigi Hadid. Sources say Hadid is closer to Swift and has distanced herself from Lively. “Gigi is closer to Taylor and has definitely taken her side in this whole drama,” an insider said.
Meanwhile, Lively has received support from other celebrities, including her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants co-stars and director Paul Feig. However, Swift has remained silent on the matter, focusing on her music and tour.
With the trial still months away, the legal battle shows no signs of ending soon. The fallout has already impacted personal relationships, leaving Swift and Lively’s friendship in question.
Whether they reconcile or go their separate ways remains to be seen. For now, Swift seems determined to stay out of the drama, while Lively continues to fight her legal battle.
