KPop Demon Hunters, the hit Netflix animated film, is coming to theaters for a special sing-along event this month. The movie, which became Netflix’s most-watched animated original, will screen in the US, Canada, and the UK on August 23 and 24. Tickets went on sale on August 13 and are available through the official website SingKPopDemonHunters.com.
The film follows HUNTR/X, a K-pop girl group who secretly fight demons while maintaining their idol image. Their rivals, the Saja Boys, are demons trying to disrupt their mission. Since its release on June 20, the movie has gained over 180 million views on Netflix and its soundtrack has surpassed 3 billion global streams.
Why The Sing-Along Event Is A Big Deal
This is a rare move for Netflix, which usually keeps its films exclusive to streaming. The sing-along format lets fans experience the movie’s music live, similar to events for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and Wicked. The film’s song “Golden” also hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making history as the first fictional K-pop group to achieve this.
“We wanted the music to be legitimately fit into the K-pop space, so we partnered with a Korean label,” said director Maggie Kang in a Netflix interview.
The event will feature four different versions of screenings, including sing-along movie parties with live hosts, photo ops, and exclusive merchandise like glow sticks and VIP badges. Cities like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Austin will host these special parties.
The Film’s Massive Popularity
KPop Demon Hunters ranks as Netflix’s No. 4 most popular English-language film and has stayed in the Top 10 for seven weeks. The voice cast includes Arden Cho, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Ahn Hyo-seop, and Ken Jeong. The music features artists like EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Lea Salonga, with production by top K-pop producers like TEDDY and 24.
The film’s success has sparked talks of a live-action adaptation and sequels. It also had a limited theatrical run earlier to qualify for the 2026 Oscars, and this sing-along event could boost its awards campaign.
