What Happened? A Recap of Pluribus Episode 6
Titled ‘HDP’, the sixth episode answered a major cliffhanger. Carol discovered that the substance labeled HDP, or “Human-Derived Protein,” was the food source for the hive-minded Others, confirming her worst fears about the warehouse she investigated.
Carol traveled to Las Vegas to meet fellow immune survivor Koumba Diabatรฉ, hoping to share her horrific find. However, Diabatรฉ already knew the truth. In a surprising turn, he explained that the Others view the food source as a “necessary evil,” forced upon them because they see even standard agriculture as violent. He also revealed that the rest of the immune group has been in contact, deliberately leaving Carol out of their discussions.
The most important rule Carol learned is that the Others will not turn her into one of them without her explicit consent. She immediately called their contact number and stated she did not consent.
The episode ended with another key development: Manousos Oviedo, the reclusive immune survivor living in Paraguay, received a videotape from Carol. This prompted him to leave his home and begin driving toward Albuquerque, setting him on a collision course with Carol’s story.
What to Expect in Pluribus Season 1 Episode 7
Episode 7, titled “The Gap”, will pick up the story from these major turning points. The title suggests the episode may explore the growing divide between Carol and the rest of the world. With only three episodes left in the season, the stakes are rising.
Based on the ending of Episode 6, here are the key storylines to watch:
- Carol’s Next Move: Now knowing the full, disturbing truth about the Others’ world and feeling betrayed by her fellow survivors, Carol is expected to take new, more defiant steps. Her search for a way to reverse the Joining will likely intensify.
- Manousos’s Journey: The video from Carol has spurred Manousos into action. His dangerous trek from Paraguay to Albuquerque could make him a crucial ally for Carol in the episodes ahead.
- The Rules of Consent: After establishing that the Others need her consent to be turned, the episode may explore the limits of this rule and how Carol uses this knowledge in her rebellion.
