Jacob Lofland, who plays Cooper Norris on Paramount+’s hit drama Landman, has revealed that the show’s second half is packed with major surprises. In a recent interview, the actor shared that his character is still unaware of the true danger he faces from cartel boss Gallino, played by Andy Garcia, and that secrets kept by his father, Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton), are set to cause major drama. The information comes as the series, created by Taylor Sheridan, moves through the second half of its critically acclaimed second season.

Lofland’s comments point to rising tension within the Norris family and increasing peril from their business dealings. Viewers can expect the remaining episodes to focus heavily on the consequences of hidden truths and dangerous alliances.

The Dangerous Truth Cooper Norris Still Doesn’t Know

According to Jacob Lofland, a central conflict brewing in Landman stems from a massive secret Tommy is keeping from his son. While Tommy has warned Cooper that their investor, Gallino, is trouble, he has omitted a crucial, violent detail.

The actor explained that Tommy witnessed Gallino murder four people during the show’s first season. Tommy has chosen to keep this horrific knowledge from Cooper, leaving his son severely underestimating the man he’s in business with. This means Cooper understands there’s a problem but has no idea about its deadly scale.

“I don’t think he understands how f**ked he is yet,” Lofland stated in his interview. “Tommy definitely knows more about Gallino than Cooper doesโ€ฆ but Tommy doesn’t tell him that he saw him kill four peopleโ€ฆ Cooper just knows it’s a problem. Doesn’t know why exactly. So that’s still to come.”

This gap in knowledge puts Cooper in a vulnerable position. He entered the deal with Gallino seeing a legitimate opportunity to build his own success and step out of his father’s shadow. His ambition blinded him to the red flags, and now his incomplete understanding of the threat could lead to catastrophic results for the entire family.

Tommy Norris’s Motives and Mounting Pressure

Tommy’s decision to withhold information is a protective move, but on Landman, such actions often backfire. By lying through omission, Tommy may have created a situation that will cause more damage when the full truth inevitably surfaces. His instinct to shield his son conflicts with the brutal realities of their world.

Tommy is under immense strain from multiple directions. Professionally, he is struggling to juggle his dual roles as the president of M-Tex and its lead landman, a nearly impossible task that has left him out of the loop on critical field incidents. His boss, Cami Miller (Demi Moore), is also refusing to heed his warnings about Gallino. In the most recent episode, Tommy confessed to Cami that Gallino is a cartel boss who committed murder in front of him. Despite this, Cami chose to continue accepting Gallino’s financial lifeline, seeing it as the only way to save her late husband’s company from legal ruin.

This puts Tommy in a terrible position, forced to manage a company that is willingly becoming entangled with a criminal empire, all while trying to steer his son away from the same danger.

Cooper’s Reckless Choices and Personal Crossroads

Cooper’s life is at a personal and professional crossroads. After his oil wells hit, he believed he was on the verge of massive wealth and independence. However, in the December 14 episode, “The Pirate Dinner,” Tommy delivered a harsh reality check.

Tommy revealed that Cooper’s deal was structured poorly and was financially unsound. To save his son from ruin and a debt owed to a cartel, Tommy had M-Tex buy out Cooper’s leases. Cooper’s dream of independent success collapsed in an instant, and he was brought back into the family business to run a work crew and learn the ropes properly.

On the personal front, Cooper’s relationship with Ariana (Paulina Chavez) has reignited. In the latest episode, Ariana tested his commitment by asking him to drive eight hours to Corpus Christi to ask her father’s permission to marry her. Cooper passed the testโ€”her father revealed it was a ruse to gauge his seriousnessโ€”but was also given a stark warning to never hurt her. This engagement brings new stability to Cooper’s personal life, even as his professional life becomes more dangerous.

What’s Next: Twists, Turns, and Unanswered Questions

Jacob Lofland has been direct about the uncertainty ahead. When asked if Cooper would discover the full truth about Gallino before the season ends, the actor was cryptic, saying, “Possibly Cooper’s going to figure that out later โ€” or maybe we don’t!” This confirms that the revelation of Tommy’s secret is a major plot point still in play.

The actor teased that there are “many twists and turns still coming in the second half of this thing,” promising that the pressure will ramp up on every character. Key questions for the remaining episodes include:

  • Will Cooper learn about the murders Tommy witnessed?
  • How will the father-son relationship withstand the weight of these secrets?
  • Can Tommy protect his family and his company as Cami deepens her ties to Gallino?
  • What will Gallino ultimately demand in return for his “investment”?

The second half of Landman Season 2 is positioned to explore the consequences of ambition, the cost of protection, and the violent reality of the world the Norris family operates within.
