The man behind the music of Euphoria is finally speaking up. Labrinth, the British singer and composer who shaped the show’s unique sound for two seasons, has explained why he walked away from the highly awaited Euphoria Season 3.
He did not hold back. Labrinth took to social media to set the record straight after Sam Levinson, the show’s creator, claimed he did not know why the musician left. The composer made it clear that respect was the main issue.
The Real Reason Behind Labrinth’s Exit
On April 11, 2026, Labrinth shared his truth on Instagram Stories. He wrote that he does not accept bad treatment from anyone, no matter the project. The Emmy winner stated that while he always respects the vision of the people he works for, he has his limits.
“People will comfortably lie in this industry and still call themselves honest people. So no cap, I decided to remove whatever music I had in it. I spoke to HBO, as far as I know, we are cool. I left because, last truth, when I work for someone, their vision is paramount to me. But I don’t let people treat me like shit.”
These words came just one day before Euphoria Season 3 premiered on April 12, 2026. His statement directly responds to recent comments made by Levinson to Rolling Stone.

Sam Levinson’s Response and Labrinth’s Reaction
Earlier this week, Sam Levinson talked to Rolling Stone about Labrinth’s sudden departure. When asked what happened, the creator said, “I don’t know.” He called Labrinth an “incredible collaborator” who built the foundation of the show’s sound.
Labrinth did not accept that answer. His post calling out people who “comfortably lie” seems aimed directly at Levinson. The musician also reminded everyone about his deleted post from March 12, 2026, where he wrote, “I’m done with this industry. Fk Columbia. Double fk Euphoria. I’m out.”
Hans Zimmer Takes Over as Sole Composer
Instead of Labrinth’s music, fans will hear a different sound in Euphoria Season 3. Hans Zimmer, the famous film composer behind The Lion King, Inception, and Interstellar, now serves as the sole composer for the season.
Earlier plans suggested Zimmer and Labrinth would work together. HBO announced that collaboration last year. But those plans fell through. Now, Zimmer alone has created a Western-style score for the eight episodes.
Levinson explained the change by pointing to the show’s new direction. Euphoria Season 3 jumps five years forward. The characters are no longer in high school. Levinson said he wanted less pop music and more of an “old-fashioned Hollywood Western score” to match the adult themes and landscapes.
Labrinth’s Major Contributions to Euphoria
Fans know that Euphoria without Labrinth feels different. He created the show’s emotional heartbeat through songs like All for Us, Formula, Mount Everest, and Never Felt So Alone featuring Billie Eilish. That last track earned a Grammy nomination.
His work also won an Emmy. The song All for Us, which he performed with lead star Zendaya, won the award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics in 2020. Many fans credit Labrinth’s “trippy” and moody sound for making the show so special.
What Labrinth Is Doing Now
The musician is not sitting at home. On April 11, 2026, Labrinth performed at the Coachella music festival. He took the outdoor theater stage at 8:30 p.m. Interestingly, HBO also screened the first episode of Euphoria Season 3 at the same festival for attendees.
Labrinth has made it clear that he and the network HBO have no problems. He said, “as far as I know, we are cool.” His issue seems to be with specific people behind the scenes, not the channel that aired his work.
