This achievement places Adolescence among the most successful Netflix productions in recent years.
Squid Game Season 2 Leads the Rankings

The series first premiered on September 17, 2021, and became a global phenomenon, winning six Primetime Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe. Season 2 dropped on December 26, 2024, after a three-year wait. Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the series follows 456 financially struggling players who risk their lives in deadly children’s games for a tempting prize.
Squid Game Season 3 also made the list, premiering on June 27, 2025, with 155.8 million views. The three seasons of Squid Game have collectively gathered nearly half a billion views for Netflix.
Adolescence Ranks Second on Netflix’s Most-Watched List
Adolescence has become a major success for Netflix, securing the second position with 171.6 million views. The series premiered on March 13, 2025, and quickly received worldwide praise for its direction, writing, cast performances, and cinematography. The show also ranks second in Netflix’s Top 10 Most Popular Shows of All Time, behind Wednesday Season 1. The ranking is based on global viewership in the first 91 days of release.
The series has also become the UK’s first streaming show to top Barb’s weekly charts. It gathered 66.3 million views in just two weeks, making it the most-watched UK series of all time on Netflix.
What Is Adolescence About
Created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, the four-episode Netflix drama follows the story of Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old schoolboy played by Owen Cooper, who gets arrested for murdering a schoolmate named Katie Leonard. The series was filmed in one continuous motion, creating a real-time viewing experience.
The show examines the dangerous impact of social media on young minds. It explores how online misogyny, incel culture, and relentless cyberbullying can influence teenagers. The series also looks at how adults often fail to notice warning signs until it is too late.
The cast includes Stephen Graham as Jamie’s father Eddie Miller, Ashley Walters as Detective Inspector Luke Bascombe, Christine Tremarco as Manda Miller, Erin Doherty as psychologist Briony Ariston, and Faye Marsay as Detective Sergeant Frank.
Awards and Critical Acclaim
Adolescence has received numerous awards and nominations. The drama won eight 2025 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series and Outstanding Writing For a Limited or Anthology Series. Owen Cooper made history as the youngest ever star to win best supporting actor in a limited series.
At the 2026 Golden Globes, Adolescence led all series with four wins, winning in every category in which it was nominated. The show also won four Critics Choice Awards in January 2026, including Best Limited Series, Best Actor in a Limited Series for Stephen Graham, Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for Owen Cooper, and Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series for Erin Doherty.
At the 2026 BAFTA TV Awards, Adolescence took home four trophies, including best limited drama. Owen Cooper won best supporting actor and Christine Tremarco won best supporting actress.
“The past year has been a complete whirlwind for me and my family. Honestly, it’s changed our lives forever and we’re forever grateful,” said Owen Cooper while accepting his Critics Choice Award. “Receiving this award means more to me than I can put even into words, to be standing here with you all tonight is something that I’ll never forget.”
“I’d like to thank all the cast and crew, because without any one of them, none of this is possible. We’re all exactly the same. When I was a kid, my mom told me, ‘You’re never above anyone and you’re never below anyone.’ So we’re all equal,” said Stephen Graham in his Critics Choice acceptance speech.
Cultural Impact Beyond the Screen
Adolescence has sparked important conversations worldwide. The show prompted discussions in the House of Commons about youth issues and online safety. A Netflix-commissioned report revealed that with more than 141 million views in its first three months, the show struck a deep cultural nerve.
Within four weeks of release, Adolescence ranked number one in 80 countries. Governments, educators, and media organizations worldwide used it as a catalyst for their own conversations.
French President Emmanuel Macron praised Adolescence in a speech about protecting children online, and the Ministry of Education introduced classroom resources. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese urged Australians to watch the series, and national media created guides for parents. National education bodies in Germany, Belgium, and Portugal developed teaching materials and resources for schools.
The show also influenced family conversations. More than half (56%) of parents familiar with the show said Adolescence prompted conversations they had never previously had with their child. Nearly two-thirds (64%) of teenagers familiar with Adolescence said they felt more understood as a result of the show. One in ten teens said they watched Adolescence in school, and 20% discussed the issues raised in class.
Classrooms across Europe, Asia, and Australia used the series as a teaching tool. In the UK, Netflix partnered with healthy relationships charity Tender, which produced guides and resources for teachers, parents, and carers to help navigate conversations around the series.
“Adolescence has sparked a global conversation about the troubling attitudes and behaviours fuelled by the harmful content young people encounter online,” said Susie McDonald MBE, CEO of Tender. “It has highlighted why young people need the skills to think critically about the content they see and the confidence to challenge it.”
Anne Mensah, VP of UK Content at Netflix, said: “We are incredibly proud of the lasting impact Adolescence has had, encouraging us all to have difficult but vital conversations about the modern world. Television has the power to bring a country together, shift and open perspectives and provide connection alongside entertainment.”
