Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is known for playing intense characters on screen. His upcoming film Haiwaan shows him in a frightening role. But off-screen, his actions tell a completely different story. Actor Gurpreet Ghuggi, who has worked with Akshay in films like Singh Is Kinng and Cuttputtli, recently shared details about the star’s quiet generosity. Ghuggi revealed that Akshay helped build 100 houses for people who lost their homes in the devastating Punjab floods of 2025.
The floods in Punjab last year caused massive destruction. Many families lost everything. Their houses were swept away. While food supplies reached the affected areas, the real problem started after the water receded. People had no roofs over their heads. That is when Akshay Kumar stepped in to make a real difference.
Ghuggi Recalls How Akshay Reached Out For Help
Gurpreet Ghuggi hails from Punjab and knows the region well. He said Akshay got in touch with him last year. The actor asked how he could help the flood-affected people. At that time, relief teams were already sending food and other essential supplies. Ghuggi told Akshay that the real need would come after the floods. The biggest problem was housing. Many people had no place to live.
“He got in touch with me last year, asking how can he help. At that time, people were getting enough assistance with the food supplies, it was in excess. I suggested to him that the real help would be needed post the floods, for those whose houses got destroyed and swept away.”
Akshay did not think twice. He promised to build 100 houses for the victims. Ghuggi then took charge on the ground. Since he is from Punjab, he knew the areas that needed help the most. He assembled a team to identify the people who had lost their homes.
80 Houses Already Complete In Gurdaspur And Amritsar
The construction work is moving fast. According to Ghuggi, 80 of the 100 houses are already finished. These houses are mostly located in villages across the Gurdaspur and Amritsar districts. The remaining 20 houses will also be completed soon.
Ghuggi made it clear that all the credit goes to Akshay. He said the star took care of everything. Ghuggi only helped as a friend by identifying the right people and managing the work on the ground.
“Since I am from Punjab, I know the area, I assembled a team to identify the people in need. These houses are mostly in the Gurdaspur and Amritsar district villages. The work on the pending houses will get completed soon. It was all Akshay paaji’s doing.”
The entire project has been carried out under the Hari Om Foundation. This foundation was started by Akshay in memory of his late father, Hari Om Bhatia. The foundation works on various social causes. This housing project is one of its major efforts.
Akshay Did Not Want His Name To Come Out
One of the most striking parts of this story is Akshay’s humility. Ghuggi shared that Akshay did not want any publicity for his good work. He wanted to help quietly. Ghuggi said Akshay told him clearly that he did not feel comfortable talking about his charity work.
“Akshay paaji may be on screen Haiwaan, real life mein he’s a true insaan. I just helped him like a friend. Voh nahi chahte the unka naam saamne aaye. He said ‘Isme koi badi baat nahi hai. Jo aadmi kar sakta hai, kar raha hai. Help karna, aur phir logon ko batana… mujhe theek nahi lagta’.”
Ghuggi also said that Akshay is only playing a frightening character called Haiwaan on screen. In real life, he is a wonderful human being. This contrast between his on-screen image and real-life actions makes the story even more meaningful.
Akshay’s Rs 5 Crore Donation For Flood Relief
This is not the first time Akshay has helped Punjab during the floods. In September 2025, he contributed Rs 5 crore for relief work. He spoke to Hindustan Times about his donation at that time. He made it clear that he did not see it as charity. For him, it was service, or “sewa”.
“I am giving Rs 5 crore for buying relief material for the Punjab flood victims, but who am I to ‘donate’ to anyone? I feel blessed when I get an opportunity to extend a helping hand. For me, it’s my sewa, my very small contribution.”
He also prayed for the people of Punjab. He said, “I pray that the natural calamity that has struck my brothers and sisters in Punjab passes soon. Rab mehr kare”. The floods had affected 1,650 villages across all 23 districts of Punjab. Over 1.75 lakh acres of farmland was submerged. The damage was massive. Akshay’s contribution helped many families get back on their feet.
Other Celebrities Also Stepped Up
Akshay was not the only one who came forward to help. Other celebrities also extended their support during the Punjab floods. Sonu Sood, Diljit Dosanjh, and Randeep Hooda were among those who contributed to relief efforts. The disaster brought together many people from the film industry and beyond. Everyone wanted to do their part.
Akshay’s Upcoming Film Haiwaan
The timing of this revelation is interesting. Akshay is currently promoting his upcoming film Haiwaan. The movie is directed by Priyadarshan. It marks Akshay’s reunion with Saif Ali Khan on screen after nearly 17 years. In the film, Akshay plays a negative character with no grey shades. He is “out-and-out evil”.
Ghuggi’s comments highlight the sharp contrast between Akshay’s role in Haiwaan and his real-life personality. On screen, he may be a monster. Off screen, he is helping people rebuild their lives. This duality is what makes the story so relatable for fans.
A Quiet Hero Who Lets His Work Speak
Akshay Kumar has always been known for his disciplined lifestyle and fitness. But his charitable work often goes unnoticed. He does not like to talk about it. This is not the first time he has helped people in need. Over the years, he has supported many causes. From providing financial help to struggling families to supporting healthcare initiatives, Akshay has done a lot.
The housing project in Punjab is a perfect example of his approach. He did not make any announcements. He did not post about it on social media. He simply got the work done. It was only because Ghuggi spoke about it that people came to know.
What This Means For The Affected Families
For the families who lost their homes in the floods, these houses are a lifeline. Having a permanent place to live means they can start rebuilding their lives. The houses are in villages in Gurdaspur and Amritsar. These are areas that suffered heavy damage during the floods.
The completion of 80 houses is a big achievement. The remaining 20 will be finished soon. This project shows how one person’s effort can make a huge difference. Akshay used his resources and his connections to help people he may never even meet.
Fans React To The News
Fans have been praising Akshay on social media after Ghuggi’s interview came out. Many are calling him a “true hero” and “real-life insaan”. The contrast between his Haiwaan character and his real-life kindness has struck a chord with people. Fans are appreciating that he did not seek attention for his good work. They feel this makes his actions even more genuine.
Some fans have also pointed out that this is not the first time Akshay has helped quietly. He has a history of supporting causes without making a big deal about it. This consistent behavior has earned him a lot of respect.
