The upcoming spy thriller Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, has cleared its censorship process with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film received a U/A 16+ certificate on June 29, 2026, but not before the board asked the makers to make a few important changes to violent scenes and language.
Alpha, directed by Shiv Rawail and produced by Yash Raj Films (YRF), is scheduled to release in cinemas on July 3, 2026. The movie is the first female-led entry in the popular YRF Spy Universe.
CBFC Asks Makers to Tone Down Multiple Stabbing Sequences
The CBFC’s Examining Committee reviewed the film and asked for specific changes to violent visuals. The board told the filmmakers to reduce and replace the visuals of multiple stabbing scenes in the second half of the movie. These stabbing visuals were asked to be toned down at the 1 hour, 36 minutes and 41 seconds mark and replaced with alternate shots.
The board also asked for modifications in the first half of the film. Visuals at the 25 minutes and 49 seconds mark and another at 38 minutes and 12 seconds were replaced with alternative visuals.
It is important to know that while these scenes were changed, no footage was completely deleted from the film. The changes were made by using different shots and edits.
Explicit Word Removed From First Half
Along with toning down violence, the CBFC also asked the makers to remove a foul word used in the first half of the film. This explicit word was ordered to be deleted at the 35 minutes and 53 seconds mark.
Other Changes and Requirements by the Censor Board
The board also gave other instructions to the makers of Alpha. They were asked to redraft the disclaimer shown at the beginning of the film. The producers were told to add English subtitles for all the songs in the movie. The opening cards and end scrolls were asked to be mentioned in the applied language, which is Hindi.
The CBFC also asked the filmmakers to insert an anti-alcohol static disclaimer in all scenes that show alcohol consumption. As per the rules, the makers had to submit the parents’ consent letter for the child artist who appears in the film.
Alpha Runtime Confirmed at 140 Minutes
After completing all the asked changes, the makers of Alpha received the censor certificate on June 29, 2026. The film’s final runtime is 140.48 minutes, which is 2 hours, 20 minutes and 48 seconds long.
The first half of the movie runs for 1 hour, 13 minutes and 32 seconds, and the second half is 1 hour, 7 minutes and 16 seconds long.
