Director Atlee recently took to social media to share his thoughts on Christopher Nolan’s latest film The Odyssey. What was meant to be a simple review quickly turned into a storm of comments from Allu Arjun fans who had only one thing on their minds – an update on their favorite star’s upcoming movie Raaka.
The Jawan director posted a detailed review of The Odyssey on his X (formerly Twitter) account on August 19, 2026. He called the film “an experience beyond cinema” and urged everyone to watch it in IMAX. But instead of discussing Nolan’s epic, Allu Arjun’s followers flooded the comment section with questions about Raaka’s release and the recent rumors about Will Smith joining the cast.
Atlee’s Love Letter to The Odyssey
Atlee shared a picture of a Trojan horse alongside his review for The Odyssey. His words showed genuine admiration for Nolan’s work.
“There are films you watch. There are films you admire. And then, very rarely, there are films that completely take you somewhere else. The Odyssey did that to me.”
The director praised every aspect of the film. He called Nolan’s storytelling “astonishing” and said the imagery “speaks its own language”. He also highlighted how the camera feels like “another character telling the story”. Atlee had special words for Ludwig Goransson’s music, saying it “doesn’t just accompany the film – it enters your pulse”.
Atlee described the theatrical experience as something rare. He wrote about the “adrenaline and immersive force” he felt inside the theatre. He encouraged fans to watch the film properly.
“Experience it in IMAX. Let the film surround you. Let the film take over. Let it take you somewhere else. Some cinema is meant to be watched. Some cinema is meant to be lived.”
The Odyssey, based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic, follows Odysseus on his dangerous journey back home after the Trojan War. The film released in theatres on July 17, 2026. Atlee’s review came about a month after its release.
Fans Flood Social Media for Raaka Update
The moment Atlee posted his review, Allu Arjun fans turned the comment section into a demand zone for Raaka updates. Many expressed their frustration after waiting for news about the film.
One fan wrote, “brooo update brooo waiting 2 years nuchi shoot chestunav I hope you estaru ani update plzz”. Another comment read, “kani le mellaga 2030 lo raaka ni release chey, em torture ra babu” – which translates to “Go ahead, release Raaka slowly in 2030, what is this torture?”.
Some fans were direct about their disappointment. One comment said, “Raaka update ivvu anthe, cinema chusa ani update isthavu enti ra” – meaning “We’re asking for Raaka update and you’re updating about films you watched”.
The recent rumors about Will Smith joining Raaka added to the chaos. Many fans asked if the Hollywood star was really part of the project. Comments like “Will Smith?” and “Will Smith unnada leda ra” (Is Will Smith there or not?) appeared repeatedly.
Will Smith and Shah Rukh Khan Rumors Add Fuel to Fire
Reports suggest that Will Smith could make his Indian cinema debut with Raaka. The Bad Boys star is reportedly in talks to play the primary antagonist in Atlee’s sci-fi epic.
According to a report by Mid-Day, discussions between the makers and Will Smith have been going on for nearly a year. A source close to the production said, “Will Smith’s dates are being worked out. The overseas location will be locked depending on his availability. His costumes have been finalised and there is immense excitement in the crew for the next leg”.
The Hollywood actor is expected to shoot his portions during an overseas schedule, with the location yet to be finalized. Reports also mention that Shah Rukh Khan might join the international schedule for a cameo role. A source revealed, “Shah Rukh will also join the international schedule at some point. He is currently shooting the final song for King, and will face the camera for Raaka after September”.

Raaka is directed by Atlee and produced by Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures. The film stars Allu Arjun and Deepika Padukone in lead roles. Sai Abhyankkar is composing the music.
The first look of Allu Arjun from Raaka was released on his 44th birthday in April 2026. The poster showed an intense close-up of a bald Allu Arjun with his face partially hidden by what appeared to be a wolf’s claw. The caption read, “Prepare yourself for a vision beyond limits”.
Reports suggest Allu Arjun will play four different roles in the film – a grandfather, a father, and two sons. The movie is reportedly a sci-fi action fantasy spanning two timelines – one set in a tribal Puranic Vedic era and the other in the modern day.
Deepika Padukone is expected to play the female lead in the historical portion, while Mrunal Thakur has been linked to the modern-day section. The cast also includes Rashmika Mandanna and Janhvi Kapoor in pivotal roles.
The film is currently expected to release in late 2027, though the makers have not announced an official date.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu chief minister C. Joseph Vijay’s fans also showed up in the comments, asking Atlee to make a similar film for their favorite star.
