Parenting teenagers is no small task, even for an Oscar-winning Hollywood star. Charlize Theron recently shared a funny and very real look at life with her two growing daughters, admitting she is struggling to keep up with them.
The 50-year-old actress appeared on the April 22 episode of the “New Heights” podcast hosted by brothers Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce. During the chat, Theron gave parents a blunt warning about what happens when kids hit a certain age. She did not hold back while describing her daughters as “firecrackers” who are currently “hormonal nightmares.”
Charlize Theron Says Daughters Jackson and August Are ‘Firecrackers’
Theron is the mother of Jackson, who is 14, and August, who is 11. She adopted Jackson in 2012 and August in 2015. When Jason Kelce, a father of four young girls, asked for parenting advice, Theron gave a brutally honest answer about the pre-teen and teenage years.
“They just turn into hormonal nightmares. Like, I’m getting my a** handed to me from the moment that I walk into the house. And all these things are gonna serve them so well in life, but I might not make it.”
The actress warned Kelce, whose daughters are all under the age of six, to enjoy the current peace while it lasts. She explained that nature tricks parents into thinking their situation is tough, only for reality to hit later.
“Nature does this beautiful thing where you think you’re in your worst place right now, so that you can cope with what you have. But from where I am, I can tell you that you’re in a lovely place and they’re still lovely and sweet.”
Theron painted a funny picture for the NFL star about what is waiting for him in about five years. She described the moment a child turns 11 and suddenly gets annoyed by everything a parent does.
“And then one day, you’re gonna walk into their room around eleven, and they’re gonna just be like, ‘Why did you turn the lights on?!’”
The “Mad Max: Fury Road” star then promised Kelce that when his third child hits that age, there will be days when he simply needs to take a break.
“You’re gonna have days where you just get in your car and drive around the block.”

The Oscar Winner Worried About Going to Jail Over Sister Fights
Theron also discussed the intense dynamic between her two daughters. Growing up as an only child, the actress admitted she did not understand sibling rivalry at first. The fighting between Jackson and August scared her so much that she thought she might be doing something wrong.
“When they fight, I actually got worried. I was like, am I not doing the right thing? Like, they’re gonna kill each other because they’re both very, very strong. They’re not wallflowers, and they’re stubborn, and they’re just firecrackers.”
The “Atomic Blonde” star joked that the arguments get so loud and intense that she worries about the legal consequences. She called her daughters “firecrackers” who do not back down from a fight.
“When they love, they love very hard. But when they fight, I’m like, oh my god. Like, am I gonna go to jail? They won’t stop.”
Theron eventually asked her friends who have sisters for advice. They told her that the aggressive fighting was perfectly normal and actually a sign of a “cool” sibling bond.
Theron Admits She is a ‘Softie’ Despite Her Tough Image
While promoting her new Netflix film “Apex,” Theron has been making several media appearances. On the “TODAY” show on April 22, she discussed how people often misunderstand her personality. Many assume she is cold or tough because of the strong characters she plays in movies like “Monster” or “The Old Guard.”
“It’s funny because people think I’m a tough b—h. A lot of people think I am very cold because I come across as self-affirmed, like I can take care of myself.”
However, the South African star explained that the reality is the complete opposite. She admitted that living with her two daughters shows a much softer side.
“I’m a softy at heart. I just think people are always shocked when they hear, ‘She cries at the drop of a hat,’ or when they see me when I’m around my kids.”
Theron added that her kids are not impressed by her Hollywood career or her Oscar awards. In fact, they are often embarrassed by her emotional personality, proving that no matter how famous a parent is, teenagers will always keep them humble.
