Hulu and Disney+ have released the official trailer for City of Blood, a new eight-part German-language thriller series that mixes vampire mythology with a climate-ravaged future. The trailer, which runs for 2 minutes and 9 seconds, gives viewers a first look at a divided Berlin where vampires control organized crime and blood has become the city’s main currency.
The series is set in a future where climate change has pushed Berlin to the edge of collapse. A privileged few live inside a climate-controlled dome, while everyone else struggles to survive outside in extreme heat, corruption, and violence. The story follows two sisters, Bea and Phoebe, who were separated as children and now find themselves caught in the middle of a dangerous power struggle.
The trailer opens with a police officer pulling over an armored truck. Blood drips from the back of the vehicle, and when the officer looks inside, he sees blood splattered everywhere. This early scene establishes that blood is not just bodily fluid in this world, it is a form of money. The trailer then shows the stark contrast between the wealthy living comfortably under the dome and the rest of Berlin suffering from rising temperatures that have reached 41°C.
The Sisters at the Center of the Conflict
Bea Hoffmann, played by Lea Drinda, grew up protected inside the dome with her adoptive mother but suffers from a chronic illness. Her sister Phoebe Kaya, played by Soma Pysall, learned to survive on the dangerous streets of Berlin. The two sisters reunite just before an important election and discover that vampires are the ones running organized crime in the city.
Phoebe works at a blood bank, but this blood bank may actually be serving the vampires’ larger plans. The trailer reveals that many people have gone missing in the last six months, and their disappearances are connected to the vampire activities. The sisters must figure out how to save themselves and their loved ones while the vampires push for more political control.
The official synopsis for the series states that the sisters will “confront a haunting question—who poses the greater threat: humans or vampires?”. This question sits at the heart of the show, as the sisters navigate a world where both human brutality and supernatural threats put their lives in danger.
The Cast and Creative Team Behind the Series
City of Blood features a strong cast of German actors. Lea Drinda (known for Der Greif) and Soma Pysall (known for PARA – Wir sind King) play the lead roles of Bea and Phoebe. The supporting cast includes:

The show is based on the graphic novel Berlinoir by illustrator Reinhard Kleist and author Tobias O. Meißner. The graphic novel was published in three volumes between 2003 and 2008 and presents an alternate Berlin ruled by immortal vampires.
The writing team includes Kim Zimmermann, Daniela Baumgärtl, Martin Behnke, Nicki Bloom, and Tillmann Roth. The series is produced by Amusement Park Film, the same company behind the Oscar-winning All Quiet on the Western Front. Executive producers include Daniel Brühl, Malte Grunert, Philipp Kadelbach, and Klaus Dohle.
Filming Locations and Production Details
While the series is set in Berlin, much of the filming took place in the Czech Republic. Prague served as one of the main locations, with additional filming in Brno, Ústí nad Labem, Trmice, Chomutov, Králův Dvůr, Soutice, Benešov, Lahovice, Kostelec nad Černými lesy, Lysá nad Labem, and Kladno.
The production ran for 110 filming days between May 25 and September 12, 2024. Czech production was handled by Sirena Film, which also worked with Amusement Park on All Quiet on the Western Front. The project received support from the Czech Audiovisual Fund, the South Moravian Film Fund, the German Motion Picture Fund, and Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, along with funding from the European Union’s Creative Europe – MEDIA program.
When and Where to Watch City of Blood
City of Blood will premiere on September 16, 2026. All eight episodes will be available to stream on the same day. In the United States, the series will be available on both Hulu and Disney+. In the United Kingdom and other international markets, the show will stream on Disney+.
The series is part of Disney+’s European originals slate, which was quietly announced in March 2026. Other shows in this slate include the Austrian period drama Vienna Game, the teen soap Westwell, and a crime novel adaptation currently titled Monster.
The trailer gives viewers a taste of what to expect from this German-language thriller. With its mix of climate fiction, vampire mythology, and political intrigue, City of Blood offers a fresh take on the vampire genre.
