Alia Bhatt is back with another production venture, and this time she is bringing a fresh young adult romantic comedy to Prime Video. The movie, titled Don’t Be Shy, marks the actor’s next project as a producer alongside her sister Shaheen Bhatt. The streaming platform has officially announced that the film will premiere worldwide on September 25, 2026.
The announcement comes after months of anticipation since the project was first revealed at Amazon Prime Video’s 2026 content lineup event in Mumbai. Don’t Be Shy is produced under the banner of Eternal Sunshine Productions, the production company founded by Alia and Shaheen Bhatt in 2021.
What is Don’t Be Shy About?
Don’t Be Shy is a coming-of-age romantic comedy that explores the ups and downs of young adulthood. The story follows themes of friendship, first love, heartbreak, dreams, and the complicated process of figuring out life as a young person.
The film is written and directed by Sreeti Mukerji, who previously worked as an assistant director on popular films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) and Brahmastra (2022). This marks her debut as a writer-director for a feature film.
Alia and Shaheen Bhatt shared their excitement about the project in a joint statement:

It captures something so honest about being young—the friendships that shape you, the first loves that change you, the heartbreaks that stay with you, and the process of gradually figuring out who you are.”
Meet the Fresh Faces Leading the Cast
One of the most exciting aspects of Don’t Be Shy is its cast. The film introduces four newcomers in lead roles, giving fresh talent a platform to shine.
Aarushi Bajaj leads the cast as the character Shy. She was born and raised in Pune and moved to Mumbai to study Liberal Arts at NMIMS, where she explored theatre and filmmaking. She began her career with commercials and made her acting debut in 2023 with the series Aarya, later appearing in Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders (2025).
Ansh Duggal started his career in modelling and advertising before moving into music videos and acting. He made his acting debut with Nakhrewaalii, a romantic comedy produced by Aanand L Rai.
Piyush Khati hails from Ranikhet in Uttarakhand. He is best known for playing Dheeraj Kumar in Netflix’s young adult series CLASS. He has also appeared in shows such as Criminal Justice and Karmma Calling, and was part of Extraction as well.
Bianca Arora has previously appeared in several web projects, including the 2024 series 36 Days and the 2025 show Power of Paanch.
The film also features experienced actors in supporting roles, including Kunaal Roy Kapur, Anurag Basu, Neha Dhupia, and Anju Alva Naik.
Behind the Scenes: Production Team
Don’t Be Shy is produced by Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt under their Eternal Sunshine Productions banner. Grishma Shah and Vikesh Bhutani serve as co-producers on the film.
Eternal Sunshine Productions was launched in 2021 with Alia announcing on Instagram: “And I am so happy to announce…. PRODUCTION!! Eternal Sunshine Productions. Let us tell you tales. Happy tales. Warm and fuzzy tales. Real tales. Timeless tales”.
The production company’s first feature was Darlings, which released in August 2022 as a co-production with Red Chillies. This was followed by the Prime Video series Poacher from Emmy winner Richie Mehta, and Jigra, an action-adventure film co-produced with Dharma Productions.

Where and When to Watch Don’t Be Shy
Don’t Be Shy will stream exclusively on Prime Video starting September 25, 2026. The film will be available in Hindi with English subtitles.
The release will be global, with the movie available across India and in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. This marks a significant milestone as Alia Bhatt’s first collaboration with Prime Video as a producer.

How Don’t Be Shy Came Together
The journey to Don’t Be Shy began earlier this year when Alia and Shaheen Bhatt announced the project at Prime Video’s #ItStartsHere event in Mumbai. The announcement video showed Alia and Shaheen going through the process of selecting the script.
In the video, they revealed that they had grown tired of going through several action film scripts before choosing Don’t Be Shy. They explained their decision by saying, “It has everything — romance, heartbreak and songs. It’s a story you grow up with”.
The announcement post on Prime Video’s Instagram read: “Is kahaani mein sab kuch hai. Romance hai. Heartbreak hai. Gaane hai. Girls, boys, aur ek turtle bhi! (This story has everything in it — romance, heartbreak, songs, girls, boys, and even a turtle!) #DontBeShy A story you grow up with”.
Alia and Shaheen’s mother, actor Soni Razdan, commented on the post, saying, “Arre fantastic! Well done, you”.
Fans also expressed their excitement in the comments section, with one writing, “Cannot wait!!! Love the feels” and another calling them the “Best sister duo”.
Alia Bhatt’s Production Journey So Far
Alia Bhatt turned producer in 2022 with her first film Darlings, which streamed on Netflix. The film starred Alia alongside Shefali Shah and Vijay Varma.
She followed this with Jigra, co-produced with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Don’t Be Shy marks her third production venture and her first with Prime Video.
On the acting front, Alia was last seen in the YRF Spy Universe thriller Alpha. She also has Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War in the pipeline.
With Don’t Be Shy, Alia continues to expand her work behind the camera, giving opportunities to new talent and telling stories that connect with young audiences.
