The hit Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch wrapped up its first season on July 3, 2026, and the show is already moving forward with a second season. Paramount+ officially renewed the series on June 24, 2026. The show became the biggest original series debut in Paramount+ history, pulling in 12.9 million global viewers within its first week.
With Season 1 ending on a major cliffhanger, fans are now asking one big question: who will be back for Season 2? Paramount confirmed the returning cast on July 14, 2026, putting an end to months of speculation. Here is the complete breakdown of who is coming back, who is leaving, and what changes are happening behind the scenes.
Returning Stars Confirmed for Season 2
Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser will both return as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler. The two leads also serve as executive producers on the show. Their return was never really in doubt, but Paramount made it official.
Ed Harris is coming back as Everett McKinney, the local veterinarian who shares a romantic history with rival rancher Beulah Jackson. Harris is expected to have a much bigger role in Season 2. Kelly Reilly told TV Insider that the upcoming season will feel very much like Ed Harris’s show.
Annette Bening will return as Beulah Jackson, the owner of the 10 Petal Ranch. Her character suffered a heart attack in Season 1, but she survived.
Finn Little is also coming back as Carter, Beth and Rip’s adopted son. Carter was kidnapped in the Season 1 finale, setting up a major rescue mission for Season 2.
Other returning cast members include:
- Juan Pablo Raba as Joaquin Jackson (now going by Joaquin Reyes)
- Natalie Alyn Lind as Oreana
- Marc Menchaca as Zachariah
- J.R. Villarreal as Azul
- Raoul Max Trujillo as Mariano Reyes, the cartel leader who becomes Season 2’s main villain
One Major Exit Confirmed
Jai Courtney will not return for Season 2. His character, Rob-Will Jackson, was shot and killed in the Season 1 finale. Rob-Will was Oreana’s father and the brother of Joaquin. The episode hinted that Joaquin was behind the shooting, though actor Juan Pablo Raba has stated his character is not the killer.
Courtney remains the only major cast member confirmed to leave the show before Season 2 begins. A return could only happen through flashback scenes.
New Showrunner Joins the Team
Benjamin Cavell is joining Dutton Ranch Season 2 as the new showrunner. Cavell created the series SEAL Team and The Institute. He has also worked as a writer on Sneaky Pete, Homeland, and Godfather of Harlem.
Season 1 was created by Chad Feehan, who left the show in April 2026 before the first season even premiered. Reports suggested Feehan stepped away after alleged friction with series stars Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly, among others. None of the parties involved have publicly addressed the speculation.
Executive producer and director Christina Voros praised Feehan’s work on Season 1, telling ScreenRant in May 2026 that he did an “exceptional job” creating the challenges Rip and Beth faced. However, she did not comment on his exit from the series.
Cole Hauser addressed the showrunner change, saying, “Showrunners change all the time”.
What to Expect in Season 2
The Season 1 finale left viewers with several major cliffhangers. Beth and Rip exposed Beulah Jackson’s illegal cattle operation and discovered the ranch was being used for fentanyl smuggling. Cartel leader Mariano Reyes targeted them after learning they knew everything.
The finale ended with Mariano kidnapping Carter. Cole Hauser told TV Insider that getting Carter back will be a major focus: “That’s going to take a couple episodes, hopefully. But Carter needs to come home”.
Season 2 will also focus on Oreana’s pregnancy. The finale revealed she is pregnant, and Carter is likely the father. However, the paternity was never clarified before Rob-Will was killed.
Beth and Rip will continue fighting to stop illegal activities connected to the 10 Petal Ranch while searching for their kidnapped son. Mariano Reyes is back and bringing even more trouble for the couple.
