The Focker family is back, but this time the joke is on someone else. Universal Pictures just released the first trailer for Focker-In-Law, the fourth movie in the Meet the Parents franchise. Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro return to their famous roles, and pop superstar Ariana Grande joins the chaos as the newest member trying to get into the family.

The trailer dropped on April 15, 2026, and it shows a big change for the franchise. Greg Focker (Stiller) is no longer the nervous guy trying to impress his girlfriend’s dad. Now he is the father, watching his own son bring home a girlfriend. And he does not like it one bit.

Greg Focker Becomes the Father Figure He Used to Fear

The new movie moves the story forward in a smart way. Greg and Pam Focker’s son Henry is now a grown man ready to get married. Henry is played by Skyler Gisondo. His twin sister Samantha is played by Beanie Feldstein.

The trailer shows Greg acting just like Jack Byrnes (De Niro) did in the first movie. He questions everything about Henry’s girlfriend Olivia, played by Grande. Greg makes jokes about how hard it is to join the family. But then Olivia passes every test with ease.

Jack Byrnes still has his famous lie detector machine. The trailer opens with Jack testing Olivia. She answers every question perfectly and shocks the whole family.

“People underestimate me, but actually I was an FBI hostage negotiator.” – Olivia Jones (Ariana Grande) in the trailer

This line changes everything. Olivia is not just a normal girlfriend. She has skills that make her very different from Greg, who failed almost every test Jack gave him years ago.

Ariana Grande Plays a Trained FBI Negotiator

Grande’s character Olivia Jones is described as a former FBI hostage negotiator. This is a big twist for the franchise. In the first three movies, Greg was the one getting tested and failing. Now the new person coming into the family is actually better at handling pressure than anyone else.

The trailer shows Olivia taking a nasty fall during a family bike ride. The whole family wears matching pink shirts. Greg seems to enjoy watching her struggle, but Olivia keeps getting back up.

Director John Hamburg returns to lead this new chapter. He worked on the screenplays for all three earlier movies. Hamburg also directed comedies like Along Came Polly and I Love You, Man.

The Full Cast Brings Back Familiar Faces

The movie brings back almost everyone from the earlier films. Owen Wilson returns as Kevin Rawley, Pam’s ex-boyfriend who always makes Greg uncomfortable. Blythe Danner is back as Dina Byrnes, Jack’s wife who keeps the peace. Teri Polo returns as Pam Byrnes Focker, Greg’s wife.

The new additions include Eduardo Franco in an unnamed role. The movie does not include Dustin Hoffman or Barbra Streisand, who played Greg’s parents in Meet the Fockers.

The official story for the movie says Henry faces family chaos when he decides to marry a strong-willed woman who appears to be his complete mismatch.

Fans React to Grande’s Acting in the Trailer

Social media lit up after the trailer came out. Many fans praised Grande’s performance. One Instagram user wrote:

“I love seeing Ariana act. It feels so natural and right! She’s shiningggg.”

Another fan posted:

“Ariana going full actress mode. We are seated.”

Some viewers noticed how much screen time Grande gets in the trailer. One person said:

“Didn’t even realise how Ari centered it would be! IM SAT.”

But not everyone is excited. Some Reddit users expressed doubt about the movie. One person wrote the trailer looks forced and called Grande’s casting similar to Jessica Alba in Little Fockers. Another Reddit user said the movie will be worse than Little Fockers based on the trailer.

The original Meet the Parents came out in 2000. It made over $330 million around the world. The sequel Meet the Fockers did even better with $522 million. The third movie Little Fockers made less money but still pulled in $310 million.

Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro Joke About Their Ages

During a presentation at CinemaCon, Stiller and De Niro had fun with each other on stage. Stiller joked that the team planned a “fully intentional 15-year break between movies three and four.” He also pointed out that he is now the same age De Niro was in the first movie.

“I guess you could say I’m the new De Niro of the franchise.” – Ben Stiller at CinemaCon

De Niro came on stage and fired back:

“Don’t say that. It’s very disrespectful. You made a very unflattering comparison that forced me to defend my honor.”

De Niro also praised Grande’s Oscar nomination for Wicked. He joked with Stiller about how many nominations Stiller has compared to Grande.

The first trailer also shows Stiller asking his son, “Are you sure she’s the one?” This is the same question Jack asked Greg in the original movie. The franchise loves these callbacks, and the trailer has several of them.

Focker-In-Law will release in theaters on November 25, 2026. The movie comes out just before Thanksgiving in the United States. Release dates vary in other countries. UK viewers will get the movie on November 27, 2026. Australian fans will see it on November 26, 2026. Indian audiences can expect a November 27, 2026 release.
