The hit MGM+ horror series FROM delivered one of its most intense episodes yet on May 17, 2026. Episode 5 of Season 4, titled “What a Long Strange Trip It’s Been,” finally gave viewers some long-awaited answers about the mysterious town. But those answers came with a heavy price.

Harold Perrineau (Boyd), David Alpay (Jade), and Catalina Sandino Moreno (Tabitha) led an episode filled with terrifying doll attacks and a mind-bending hallucination that changed everything. The episode is now streaming on MGM+ in the United States. For viewers in India, the UK, Canada, and Australia, the episode is available through Prime Video with the MGM+ add-on subscription.

A Terrifying Discovery at the Lake

The episode picked up right where Episode 4 ended. Ethan and the group had found a strange clump floating in the “Lake of Tears” near the settlement. The group pulled the tangled mess out of the water using a rope. Instead of dead bodies, they found something far more unsettling: life-sized dolls that looked like scarecrows.

Donna and the others tried to push the dolls back into the water. They packed the dolls with heavy rocks and threw them back into the lake. But the damage was already done. That night, as the group slept in a nearby cabin, they heard strange singing from outside.

Tabitha suddenly remembered a hidden memory. Her father once threw her dolls into a lake because they gave him nightmares. After her father died, those nightmares came to life. As she explained this, a giant scarecrow doll crashed through the cabin wall.

The attack was brutal. A character named Roger, played by Eugene Sampang, was the first to die. The doll shoved its hand into his mouth and ripped his jaw apart. Blood covered the cabin walls. Another doll went after Patty, but Ellis saved her by pushing the doll into a fire. Donna almost died when a doll grabbed her neck. Tabitha grabbed one of the wooden totems from outside and stabbed the doll, killing it instantly.

The dolls do not follow the same rules as the night creatures. The talismans that usually keep the monsters away had no effect on these scarecrow dolls.

Jade’s Dangerous Experiment

While the lake group fought for their lives, Jade and Boyd stayed in the town’s post office. Jade was tired of waiting for answers. He decided to eat a handful of magic mushrooms he found in the forest. His plan was to force his mind to unlock hidden memories from his past lives.

Boyd agreed to watch over him. They set up a safe word — “Capricorn” — in case things became too intense. Jade’s trip started slowly. He saw spiders crawling everywhere. Then he saw a younger version of himself playing the violin. The vision showed Jade the day his grandmother died.

The dead man with a nail in his eye appeared again. He offered Jade a skull filled with blood. Young Jade warned him not to drink it. But Boyd told him the blood was not real. So Jade drank it all. At the bottom of the skull, he found beetles. Then his real trip began.

The Shocking Truth About Jade’s Past Lives

Jade found himself at Colony House. He saw four men sitting on the porch. All of them played the violin. Jade realized these men were his past incarnations. Every version of himself that had ever lived in the town was there. And every single one of them had been murdered.

Young Jade explained what really happened. The townspeople killed Jade every single time. The creatures did not do it. The children in white had been calling out to Jade across multiple lifetimes. When the townspeople learned the truth, they turned against him and killed him. The same fate also awaits Tabitha every time.

Young Jade then led him to a storage room. He told Jade to “clear the path.” After moving some luggage, Jade found a hidden door. It led to a long hallway filled with spiders. The hallway eventually opened into the tunnels where the creatures live during the day.

Jade found the chamber where the children were first sacrificed. A large stone slab covered a pit filled with bones. The creatures appeared and threw him into the grave. As they sealed him inside, a child’s voice said “Angkhooey,” which means “remember.”

The Ending That Changes Everything

Jade woke up screaming inside the post office. He thought he was still in the tunnels. He kept yelling, “What the fu*k are we doing here? How did we get here?” Boyd told him they never left the room. Jade had been sitting in that chair for hours. None of the journey through the forest or Colony House had been real.

But Jade did not care. He looked at Boyd and said something no one expected. He said he now knows where the children are. And he knows how to save them. The episode ended with Boyd staring at Jade in complete shock.

“It doesn’t redefine our relationship,” said Harold Perrineau about the new bond between Boyd and Jade. “It’s not because I know about the quest. Jade knows about the quest. It’s just that I’ve run out of options… we got to try something!”

The episode also showed Marielle suffering from her old Music Box Monster nightmares. Henry started drinking heavily after learning what the Man in Yellow did to his wife Miranda. Victor had to watch his father fall apart from the same pain he has carried his whole life.
