Bollywood actor Imran Khan has officially confirmed his return to films after a decade-long break. The actor, who was last seen in a leading role in the 2015 film Katti Batti, will make his comeback with Netflix’s upcoming romantic comedy Adhure Hum Adhure Tum. The project marks one of the most awaited returns in Hindi cinema this year.

Khan broke his silence in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, where he shared that he has finished shooting for the film and it is currently in post-production. The movie is scheduled to arrive on the streaming platform by the end of 2026.

What Imran Khan Said About His Comeback Film

The actor described Adhure Hum Adhure Tum as a “grown-up romantic comedy” that feels “age-appropriate” to where he is in life right now. This marks a clear shift from the youthful, coming-of-age characters he played earlier in his career.

“I have just finished shooting a new movie. It’s my first movie in 10 years and we’re in post-production right now. It’s called Adhure Hum Adhure Tum. It’s for Netflix and is scheduled to come out end of this year. It’s a grown-up romantic comedy… age-appropriate to where I am now.”

Khan also spoke about working with young actor Gurfateh Pirzada in the project. He praised his co-star and said this was the film he simply had to make after his long break.

“I’ve just worked with a really great young actor, Gurfateh Pirzada. Adhure Hum Adhure Tum. It’s the one I simply had to make after 10 years.”

Why Imran Khan Chose This Project

The actor did not pick a typical commercial entertainer for his return. Instead, he chose a story that reflects his personal growth over the past decade. Speaking earlier to Hindustan Times, Khan explained how the project feels like a natural continuation of his previous work with director Danish Aslam.

The two had previously collaborated on the 2010 romantic comedy Break Ke Baad. Khan said the new film is what the team of Break Ke Baad would be doing 15 years later in life.

“The movie is just like what the team of Break Ke Baad would be doing 15 years later in life. It’s a natural progression. Danish and I now have collective life experience. He’s been married, I’ve been through a divorce. It’s just the film we should make 15 years later.”

Cast and Crew Details

Adhure Hum Adhure Tum brings together a strong cast. Alongside Imran Khan, the film features Bhumi Pednekar in the lead female role and Gurfateh Pirzada in a key part. This marks the first collaboration between Khan and Pednekar.

Danish Aslam directs the film. He previously directed Khan in Break Ke Baad. The project is produced by Imran Khan and Danish Aslam in partnership with Open Air Films. Open Air Films has previously worked on Netflix titles including Leila and Cobalt Blue.

Production began in Mumbai in April 2025. Shooting has now wrapped, and the film has moved into post-production. The title Adhure Hum Adhure Tum comes from one of the songs in the 2010 film Break Ke Baad, which also starred Deepika Padukone.

Imran Khan’s Decade Away From Films

Khan stepped away from acting after Katti Batti in 2015. The film, directed by Nikkhil Advani and co-starring Kangana Ranaut, did not perform well at the box office. After that, the actor decided to focus on his personal life and family.

In an earlier interview with Vogue, Khan opened up about his decision to quit acting. He spoke about feeling broken inside in 2016 and wanting to be the best version of himself for his daughter.

“I hit a low in 2016 where I felt broken inside. Luckily, I was working in an industry that had rewarded me financially, so by the time I was 30, I didn’t have to worry about money. At that point, it wasn’t my career because I wasn’t excited by it enough to want to work hard for it. I had recently become a father and thought, ‘This is valuable. This is something I take seriously.’ I wanted to be the best version of myself for Imara.”

The actor made a brief cameo appearance earlier this year in Vir Das’s film Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos. But Adhure Hum Adhure Tum marks his full-fledged return as a leading man.

Imran Khan’s Rise to Stardom

Khan made his acting debut as a child artist, playing the young version of his uncle Aamir Khan’s character in the 1988 film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. He took on his first lead role in 2008 with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, opposite Genelia D’Souza. The film, produced by Aamir Khan, became a cult classic and established Imran as a popular young star.

Over the years, he became known for playing the charming boy-next-door in romantic comedies. His filmography includes I Hate Luv Storys, Break Ke Baad, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein. Many fans still consider his role in the 2011 black comedy Delhi Belly to be his most iconic performance.

What We Know About the Film’s Release

Adhure Hum Adhure Tum is a Netflix original film. It is scheduled to release on the platform by the end of 2026. The makers have not yet announced an exact release date. It is also not confirmed whether the film will have any theatrical release before it arrives on streaming.

The film is described as a dysfunctional romantic dramedy that mixes humor and everyday chaos. Plot details remain under wraps, but Khan has suggested that the story reflects where he is in life today.
