The K-pop girl group IHOTEU has officially disbanded just seven months after their debut. The sudden breakup follows a scandal involving the groupโs member Mina and the married CEO of their agency, Lee Kang Hee. The controversy has thrown the entire company into chaos, leading to contract terminations and operational shutdowns.
IHOTEU, a three-member group under EFG Music (a subsidiary of JDB Entertainment), announced the termination of all contracts. The decision came after photos surfaced online showing CEO Lee Kang Hee in intimate situations with Mina. The CEO, who is married with two children, later admitted to the affair and resigned from his position.
The group initially stated that Mina would leave while Negi and Amu continued. However, hours later, EFG Music announced the termination of all three contracts. The agency cited the membersโ “artistic direction and emotional wellbeing” as reasons for the decision.
“After deep consideration of each memberโs artistic direction and emotional safety, weโve mutually decided to terminate all contracts. Mina graduated through internal discussions and has since deactivated her official activity accounts. Further discussions are unlikely, and we respect her decision.” โ EFG Music statement
The scandal has severely impacted JDB Entertainment and its subsidiary EFG Music. The agency has temporarily suspended all operations while reviewing its future. Meanwhile, Negi and Amu will fulfill some pre-scheduled live performances, but all other activities have been canceled.
How the Scandal Unfolded
The controversy began when TenAsia published an exclusive report about CEO Lee Kang Heeโs alleged affair with Mina. Photos showed the two holding hands, hugging, and leaving events together in his luxury car. Sources claimed they frequently met alone after official schedules.
Lee later admitted to the relationship in a company meeting. His resignation followed shortly after, leaving EFG Music without leadership. The agency tried to downplay the situation by initially calling Minaโs exit a “graduation.” However, public backlash forced them to disband the group entirely.
“Employees within the company became aware of their relationship a few days ago. As it is a serious matter, we are currently considering what measures to take against the CEO.” โ JDB Entertainment statement
The Aftermath: Cancellations and Refunds
All upcoming activities for IHOTEU, including live shows and album promotions, have been canceled. The agency is now processing refunds for fans who purchased concert tickets and merchandise. EFG Music also warned against spreading rumors or false information about the members.
“We earnestly ask that you refrain from excessive slander, dissemination of false information, and remarks about individual artists. This issue stems from the companyโs lack of internal management and inexperienced response.” โ EFG Music apology statement
A Short-Lived Career
IHOTEU debuted in June 2024 with the single album The First Wave. The group, known for their live performances, was the first act signed under EFG Music. Their sudden disbandment has left fans shocked and disappointed.
The scandal has also affected another group under EFG Music, HIJK, whose contract was terminated shortly after. The future of the label remains uncertain as internal reviews and legal consultations continue.
Whatโs Next for the Members?
Mina has deactivated all her social media accounts and remains out of the public eye. Negi and Amu will continue some pre-arranged performances but have not announced solo plans. The agency has promised to support them “within the agreed scope.”
Meanwhile, JDB Entertainment, home to popular comedians like Kim Jun Ho and Kim Dae Hee, faces a major crisis. The companyโs reputation has taken a hit, and its future operations are under review.
