The Rohit Shetty-hosted reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi 15 is facing another wave of criticism after a recent elimination task required contestants to endure molten wax poured directly onto their bare hands. The backlash comes just days after the show was criticised for a rubber bullet stunt that left multiple participants injured.
The Molten Wax Elimination Task
In the second week of the season, four contestants who received the ‘fear fanda’ — Rubina Dilaik, Ruhaanika Dhawan, Harsh Gujral, and Vishal Aditya Singh — were made to perform a pain-endurance elimination task. The challenge required them to collect hot wax poured onto their hands over a 10-minute period. The contestant who gathered the maximum amount of wax would be safe from elimination.
Before the task began, host Rohit Shetty explained the rules and told the contestants they could quit at any point. He also assured them the stunt would be conducted under medical supervision. Despite these assurances, all four participants appeared visibly anxious.
Ruhaanika broke down even before the stunt started. Rubina tried to reassure her while also acknowledging her own fear, saying, “All of us are scared; I am getting goosebumps. I have to use all my strength and patience here to endure this pain”.
Contestants Scream in Pain During the Task
As the molten wax was poured, the situation quickly became intense. Ruhaanika was seen crying and screaming in pain. Rubina screamed, “It’s just killing. My soul has come out, sir”.
The challenge became even more difficult when Rohit announced that the flow of hot wax would be increased. Reacting to the change, Rubina said, “Now, it’s stinging, and those stings are unbearable. The wax on the layer is penetrating even deeper. The impact is killing”.
Vishal described the experience as a “pain auction” and said, “This pain auction has left me speechless; my entire body is aching”. Ruhaanika eventually decided to abort the task as the intensity increased. Harsh Gujral emerged as the winner of the challenge.
After the stunt, Vishal spoke about the physical toll, saying, “The pain auction is something; we come on a show and shoot ourselves in the foot. We go through this process, and it’s painful”. Rubina added, “The skin tolerance just kept breaking; I wanted to see my pain threshold. My condition is so bad that even talking is taking too much energy”.
Viewers Call the Stunt ‘Cruel and Dehumanising’
The task triggered a strong reaction on social media, with many viewers expressing shock and anger. One user commented, “Giving pain to someone is not a daring thing related to overcoming fear, it is simply sadism for entertainment! Stunt should not be based on taking physical pain or injury as a compulsory part or task”.
Another viewer wrote, “Sorry, but this isn’t entertaining at all. This is genuinely so traumatising”. A third user said, “It’s supposed to be a stunt show, not a spectacle of human suffering. A ‘pain auction’ with pellet guns and hot wax on bare skin is just cruel and dehumanising. How did anyone think this was okay?”.
One social media user directly addressed the show’s host, writing, “@iamrohitshetty and KKK team, please stop this inhuman behaviour. This is just cruel and not a stunt anymore. Inducing pain is not cool and not worth watching”.
Several viewers pointed out that a similar wax-based stunt had been performed by Tejasswi Prakash on Khatron Ke Khiladi 10, but many still felt this season’s tasks had crossed a line. One comment read, “Wax stunt was just too much and unnecessary. KKK this year is pure torture”.
Following the Rubber Bullet Controversy
The molten wax backlash comes just a week after the show faced significant criticism over a rubber bullet stunt. In that task, contestants including Gaurav Khanna, Vishal Aditya Singh, and Karan Wahi were hit with rubber bullets as part of a ‘Pain Auction’ stunt, which left them with visible injuries.
Gaurav Khanna shared videos on social media showing the bruises on his back, sparking outrage online. Viewers compared the injuries to those seen at protests and questioned the show’s safety standards. One user wrote, “Disgusting task!! How can they put people’s life in danger. Anything for TRPs!”.
Following that controversy, Banijay Asia CEO Deepak Dhar defended the show’s safety protocols, stating that every stunt is conducted under strict international safety standards. He also said the show is “not all brutal”. However, the latest molten wax task has reignited concerns about the direction of this season’s challenges.
