NBCUniversal has ended Law & Order: Organized Crime after five seasons. The news dropped on April 16, 2026, confirming that the Christopher Meloni-led spinoff will not return for a sixth season on either NBC or Peacock.

The show started on NBC for its first four seasons before moving to Peacock for Season 5. That fifth season premiered on April 17, 2025, almost exactly one year before the cancellation announcement. The final 10 episodes finished airing on June 12, 2025.

For many viewers, this decision did not come out of nowhere.

Fans Predicted This Outcome Months Ago

Social media lit up after the cancellation news, but a lot of fans admitted they were not shocked. One X user wrote, “I saw this coming just based on the storylines of the show. I’m severely disappointed because IMO the past seasons have been better than SVU.”

Another fan shared, “This was the better show outta the franchise,” while someone else called the move “Ridiculous! This was the best out of the three!”

The signs were there for months. NBC moved Organized Crime to Peacock for Season 4, and the ratings numbers were the lowest among all active shows in the Law & Order franchise. The show also went through five different showrunners across its five seasons, which rarely signals stability behind the scenes.

What Season 5 Covered Before The End

The final season took the Organized Crime Control Bureau into new territory. The team dealt with cross-border smuggling and high-tech domestic terrorism. Elliot Stabler also spent the season watching for payback from the Italian crime family he angered during his time in Rome.

Season 5 brought back several familiar faces. Dean Norris returned as Stabler’s brother Randall. Ellen Burstyn came back as his mother Bernadette. Nicky Torchia also appeared as Stabler’s son, Elliot “Eli” Stabler Jr. Jason Patric joined the cast as a recurring guest star playing Det. Tim McKenna.

The main cast for the final season included Danielle Moné Truitt as Sgt. Ayanna Bell, Rick Gonzalez as Bobby Reyes, Ainsley Seiger as Jet Slootmaekers, and Tate Ellington as Kyle Vargas.

Christopher Meloni Says Goodbye To Stabler

Christopher Meloni shared a video on Instagram after the news broke. He thanked the fans directly.

“I just saw that they announced ‘Organized Crime’ won’t be coming back. I wanted to take this moment to say thank you to the fans who not only helped give the character of Elliot Stabler life and longevity, but for sticking with him and welcoming him back. It was a good ride. I had a great time playing him. It was a great ride. Thank you. You helped give me a career that I never dreamed of, nearly 17 odd years.”

Meloni first played Stabler on Law & Order: SVU from 1999 to 2011. He returned to the franchise in 2021 with guest spots on SVU before launching the Organized Crime spinoff. He has also made three guest appearances on the original Law & Order series over the years.

What This Means For The Law & Order Franchise

With Organized Crime gone, only Law & Order: SVU remains as the active spinoff. NBC has not yet renewed SVU for the 2026-27 season. The original Law & Order series also has not received a renewal announcement.

SVU will celebrate its 27th season if it comes back. The original Law & Order series is currently in its 25th season after getting revived in 2022 following 12 years off the air.

Fans are already asking for Meloni to return to SVU full time. One X user wrote, “Bring Elliot back to SVU and make the show watchable again.” Another posted, “Now bring him into SVU, it’s time to get them ratings up.” A third fan simply said, “Stabler better be back on SVU.”

Meloni has already lined up his next project. He will lead Dan Fogelman’s upcoming NFL drama called The Land for Hulu. All five seasons of Law & Order: Organized Crime remain available to stream on Peacock.
