The wait is finally over for fans of the Ingalls family. Netflix just dropped the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Little House on the Prairie reboot series, giving everyone a proper look at the new cast bringing the classic stories to life. The streaming service also confirmed the show will arrive on July 9, 2026, and there is already good news about more episodes.

The reboot has already been picked up for a second season, which is a big vote of confidence from Netflix before the first season even comes out. This decision shows the company believes the new adaptation will connect with both old fans who grew up with the 1970s show and new viewers discovering the Ingalls family for the first time.

Meet the New Ingalls Family Cast

The teaser trailer introduces the fresh faces playing the beloved characters. Alice Halsey, known for her work in Lessons in Chemistry, takes on the role of the strong-willed Laura Ingalls. Her older sister Mary is played by Skywalker Hughes. The parents, Charles “Pa” Ingalls and Caroline “Ma” Ingalls, are played by Luke Bracey and Crosby Fitzgerald.

The short trailer shows Laura running with the family dog Jack, Charles playing his fiddle by a campfire, and Mary sharing a sweet moment with a neighbor boy. But the teaser also hints at the harder times ahead. Viewers see the family leaving their Wisconsin home, facing uncertain moments, and Ma and Pa holding back tears as they look toward an unknown future.

Young Laura serves as the narrator in this version. Her voice guides the audience through the family’s move from the big woods of Wisconsin to the open prairie. She says in the trailer, “Every day and every night was an adventure. And even though they were all alone, and very small against the sky and the stars, they were happy because they were a family and they were together.”

What the Showrunner Says About This New Adaptation

Rebecca Sonnenshine, who serves as the showrunner for the series, explained her deep connection to the source material. She told Netflix’s Tudum that she fell in love with Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books when she was only 5 years old. Those books inspired her to become a writer and filmmaker.

Sonnenshine described what viewers can expect from the first season.

“This show is a love story about a family. They’re a family you want to be with, you want to know, you want to spend time with. That’s really at the core of what Little House on the Prairie is about: a family that is there for each other, that tells stories to each other, tells stories about themselves.”

The first season takes inspiration from the third book in the series, which is also called Little House on the Prairie. Sonnenshine mentioned that the characters will talk about their life before coming to the prairie, and viewers might meet some people from their past.

What Makes This Reboot Different

This new version is described as part hopeful family drama, part survival story, and part origin tale of the American West. It offers what the producers call a fresh look at Wilder’s semi-autobiographical books, showing the struggles and victories of people who helped shape the frontier.

Trip Friendly, whose father Ed Friendly produced the original NBC series that ran from 1974 to 1984, is involved as an executive producer. He shared that his dream has always been to go back to the original books and do a new adaptation while also bringing in the history of that time period – the 1860s, 1870s, and 1880s.

The original Little House on the Prairie TV series remains hugely popular. Nielsen reported that the nostalgic show gathered 13.25 billion minutes of viewing time in 2024 alone. The books have sold more than 73 million copies in over 100 countries and have been translated into at least 27 languages.

When and Where to Watch

All eight episodes of the first season will be available for streaming on Netflix starting July 9, 2026. Viewers in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, India, and other global markets will be able to watch the series on the same date through the platform.

The show is produced by CBS Studios and Anonymous Content. Besides Sonnenshine and Friendly, executive producers include Joy Gorman Wettels for Joy Coalition, Dana Fox, and Susanna Fogel.
