Anya Taylor-Joy is back in the crime world. The Golden Globe winner stars as a con artist forced to return to her criminal roots in Lucky, the new limited series coming to Apple TV+ on July 15, 2026. The official trailer dropped on June 3, 2026, and it packs a lot of action, family betrayal, and mob threats.
Based on Marissa Stapleyโs bestselling novel, the show follows Lucky Armstrong, a young woman who left her life of crime years ago. But when a multi-million dollar heist goes wrong, she must run from both the FBI and a ruthless crime boss played by Annette Bening.
The series also marks a major role for Drew Starkey, known as Rafe Cameron on Netflixโs Outer Banks. He plays Cary, Luckyโs husband, who disappears along with stolen mob money. Timothy Olyphant stars as Luckyโs criminal father, John.
Trailer Shows Lucky Forced Back Into Crime
The nearly two-minute trailer opens with Luckyโs father giving her advice about survival. But Lucky, looking exhausted, says she just wants to get out alive.
โJust thinking Iโd like to get out of here alive,โ Lucky says in the trailer.
The trailer then shows a high-stakes heist that falls apart. Lucky wakes up confused, and Cary (Drew Starkey) is gone. The money is also missing. That is when Priscilla Matheson (Annette Bening), Luckyโs mother-in-law and a dangerous mob leader, comes looking for answers.
Priscilla thinks Lucky did something to Cary and took the money for herself. But the trailer suggests Lucky genuinely does not know where her husband or the cash is. Priscilla does not believe her.
Annette Beningโs character delivers a cold warning to Lucky.
โThatโs the wrong answer,โ Priscilla says.
The trailer also teases that someone from Luckyโs past has returned. This person is not only targeting her but also went after her husband. Lucky has to do one last criminal job to close this dark chapter forever.
Timothy Olyphantโs character, John, raised his daughter in a life of crime. The trailer shows that Lucky has been running from that life for a long time. But now she has no choice but to face it again.
Drew Starkey Plays Luckyโs Missing Husband
Drew Starkey joins the cast as Cary Armstrong, Luckyโs husband. This is a major recurring role for the Outer Banks star. The character is central to the showโs mystery because he disappears after the heist along with the stolen money.
Starkey recently starred opposite Daniel Craig in the 2024 film Queer and appeared in the romantic comedy The Other Zoey. On television, he played the troubled Rafe Cameron on Outer Banks, which is heading into its fifth and final season.
Anya Taylor-Joy Returns to Limited Series After The Queenโs Gambit
Anya Taylor-Joy became a household name after starring in The Queenโs Gambit in 2020. That show brought her a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy nomination. Lucky marks her return to the limited series format after six years.
Taylor-Joy does not only star in the show. She also serves as an executive producer through her production company, LadyKiller. This follows a pattern of her taking more control behind the camera. She previously produced and starred in films like The Menu and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
Reese Witherspoon also executive produces the series through her company, Hello Sunshine. Witherspoonโs book club picked Stapleyโs novel, which helped bring the story to Apple TV+.
Witherspoon spoke about bringing the book to television.
โReeseโs Book Club began with the goal of deepening connections โ to the stories, to the storytellers, and to the community we are building. It is incredibly rewarding to be able to amplify these female-centric stories and their authors,โ Witherspoon said.
