The latest episode of Apple TV’s dark comedy thriller Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed dropped on July 1, 2026, and it delivered some of the biggest twists of the season. Episode 8, titled “Hallidays,” finds the show’s main character Paula Saunders at her absolute lowest point after getting arrested for the murders of Trevor and Sky. The episode explores the lengths Paula is willing to go to prove her innocence while showing a different, more dangerous side of her coworker, Geri.
Episode 7 ended with Paula being taken into custody by Detectives Baxter and Gonzalez. The evidence against her looked strong, and Detective Baxter was ready to close the case. But the start of Episode 8 makes it clear that Paula’s legal nightmare is just beginning. Instead of receiving help, she falls into a clever trap set by someone trying to get information from her.
The Imposter Lawyer Twist Shakes Paula’s Trust
The episode opens with Paula sitting in a prison cell, trying to understand how her life fell apart so quickly. She gets a visit from a woman named Rebecca Halliday who claims to be her lawyer. Paula, desperate for help, tells this woman everything about Trevor and the events that led to her arrest. After the meeting, Paula returns to her cell, thinking she has finally gotten some legal help.
But things take a strange turn when the guards call her for another visit. To her shock, she meets a second woman who also introduces herself as Rebecca Halliday. Paula realizes she was tricked into talking to someone who pretended to be her lawyer. The imposter used this trick to hear Paula’s story without her knowing. This moment shows how vulnerable Paula has become. Her desperation has made her an easy target for people who want to use her situation for their own gain.
Karl Steps In to Help, But Custody Gets Complicated
Paula gets a small break when her ex-husband Karl pays her bail and gets her out of jail. The scenes between Paula and Karl are among the most emotional in the entire series. Karl makes it clear that he wants to support Paula, but he has to protect their daughter Hazel first.
Karl tells Paula that Hazel will stay with him and his wife Mallory full time. Paula will only be allowed supervised visits with her daughter. Paula accepts this decision because she understands that Hazel would not be safe with her right now. The episode handles this custody situation with honesty. Neither Karl nor Paula is entirely right or wrong. Karl wants stability for Hazel, while Paula desperately needs someone to believe in her. Neither of them gets everything they want.
Even the video call Paula has with Hazel feels heartbreaking. Hazel is excited to paint, but when Mallory comes home, she shifts her attention to her stepmother. Paula watches this happen and feels the weight of losing her daughter in ways that go beyond legal agreements.
Geri Shows Her Ruthless Side as a Reporter
While Paula struggles to survive, her coworker Geri shows a different side of herself. Geri has been writing a story about Paula for a long time. In Episode 8, she presents her draft to Suzie and Drew. They are very happy with what she has written. Suzie even calls Geri’s article a “Machiavellian backstabber.”
Geri does not think twice about putting Paula in more trouble, just to get recognized as a serious reporter. She knows that her story will bring more scrutiny to Paula’s life, but she goes ahead with it anyway. This moment shows Geri as an opportunist who will throw anyone under the bus to advance her career. Geri also visits a woman from college admissions who Dennis previously threatened. She seems willing to do whatever it takes to get the full story, even if it hurts Paula.
Paula Takes Matters Into Her Own Hands
Paula is told to stay home and let her lawyer handle the case. But she cannot sit still while her life falls apart. She remembers that she is still logged into John Smith’s Amazon account. She uses this account to track down the old woman who collects packages for Dennis. Paula follows the old woman to a house and makes the dangerous decision to break in through the basement.
While searching the house, someone attacks Paula with a gun. The person turns out to be Ash, a friend of Trevor’s. Ash reveals important information to Paula. Dennis killed Trevor because Trevor wanted to start his own blackmail operation instead of just taking a cut. Ash also says Dennis killed Sky, and she heard it happen on a call.
Paula sees Ash as the perfect witness who can clear her name. But Ash is not eager to help. Paula convinces Ash to come to the police station. However, Ash escapes through the bathroom window before Paula can present her to Detective Gonzalez. Paula is left with a gun and a pen drive that Ash dropped. She keeps the drive, hoping it contains more evidence that can help her.
Rudy Suspects Geri’s Secrets and Puts Himself in Danger
Rudy, another coworker, grows suspicious of Geri’s actions. He looks into her locked drawer and finds the draft of the article she wrote about Paula. He also finds Dennis’ phone, which Geri had hidden. Rudy decides to turn the phone on, hoping to find evidence that can help Paula.
This decision puts Rudy in serious danger. The moment he powers up the phone, a woman connected to Dennis’ criminal network sees a blinking signal on her laptop. This means Rudy’s location is now visible to people who have already proven they are willing to kill to protect their business. If Rudy dies in the final episodes, Geri will have to face the human cost of her betrayal.

The Pen Drive and Phone Setup the Final Episodes
Paula keeps the pen drive that Ash dropped, while Rudy holds Dennis’ phone. One of these items could clear Paula’s name, while the other could lead killers straight to Rudy. This double pressure creates a tense setup for the final two episodes of the season. Episode 9 will show whether Rudy survives and if Paula can finally prove her innocence.
Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1 will end with a two-episode finale on July 15, 2026. The series, created by David J. Rosen, also stars Jake Johnson, Jon Michael Hill, Charlie Hall, and Dolly de Leon. The show is available to stream on Apple TV, with new episodes arriving every Wednesday until the season ends.
