Australian actress Tanzyn Crawford is the latest star to join the cast of Netflix’s live-action Assassin’s Creed series. Her addition as a series regular was confirmed on January 2, 2026, marking a major new casting for the highly-anticipated video game adaptation. Crawford is set to appear alongside previously announced leads Toby Wallace, Lola Petticrew, and fellow series regulars Zachary Hart and Laura Marcus.

The news comes just as Crawford’s other major franchise role launches. She is also a main cast member in HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which premieres on January 18, 2026. This means fans will see the actress in two major, ambitious series based on hugely popular franchises.

Who Is Tanzyn Crawford?

Tanzyn Crawford is a fast-rising Australian actress. She first gained significant attention for her breakout role as the daughter of Kathryn Hahn’s character in the Emmy-nominated 2023 Hulu drama Tiny Beautiful Things. That same year, she also had a guest role on M. Night Shyamalan’s Apple TV series Servant.

In her home country, Crawford recently took a leading role in the Australian drama Swift Street, starring opposite Cliff Curtis. Her big international break arrived when she was cast in HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, where she plays the character Tanselle. This series, based on George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, is already renewed for a second season, which would keep Crawford busy in Westeros.

“Tanzyn Crawford joins the cast of Assassin’s Creed, a live-action series adaptation of Ubisoftโ€™s best-selling video game franchise,” Netflix’s official Geeked social media account confirmed.

The Growing Cast of Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed

The Netflix series is assembling a cast of promising talent. Toby Wallace, known for roles in Euphoria and The Society, and Lola Petticrew from Say Nothing and Tuesday, are set as the leads. They are joined by Zachary Hart, recognized from Slow Horses, and Laura Marcus from Bad Education and Death By Lightning.

Specific details about the characters any of these actors will play are being kept secret. Reports indicate the series will feature entirely new characters created specifically for this adaptation, rather than using established heroes from the video games. Crawford’s role, like those of her co-stars, remains under wraps.

What We Know About the Assassin’s Creed Series

The live-action series is described as a “high-octane thriller” centered on the ancient secret war between two factions: the Templar Order and the Assassin Brotherhood. One group fights to control humanity’s path using powerful artifacts, while the other fights to preserve free will.

The official logline states the show will “follow its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanityโ€™s destiny”. While the games have visited settings from Renaissance Italy to Ancient Egypt, the exact time period for the Netflix series is not yet known. However, multiple reports confirm that production is scheduled to begin later in 2026 in Italy, which will also serve as a setting for the story.

The show is a major project for Netflix, born from a partnership with game publisher Ubisoft that was first announced in 2020.

“Weโ€™ve been fans of Assassin’s Creed since its release in 2007,” said showrunners Roberto Patino and David Wiener in a joint statement. “Beneath the scope, the spectacle, the parkour and the thrills is a baseline for the most essential kind of human story”.

The Creative Team Behind the Adaptation

The series is in experienced hands. The showrunners and executive producers are Roberto Patino (DMZ, Westworld) and David Wiener (Halo, Homecoming). They are joined by executive producers from Ubisoft Film & Television, including Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, and Genevieve Jones, as well as Matt Oโ€™Toole.

Johan Renck, the award-winning director of the acclaimed miniseries Chernobyl, has been tapped to direct the series.

The Assassin’s Creed video game franchise is one of the best-selling in history, with more than 230 million units sold worldwide since its debut in 2007. This series marks Netflix’s latest attempt to bring a major gaming world to the screen, following successful adaptations like Arcane (League of Legends) and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

No official release date for the Assassin’s Creed series has been announced. With production starting in 2026, a release is not expected until 2027 or later.
